Name change - maiden name got lost

When updating my name-change (marriage) on IMDB, I ticked the "updated existing credits with 'as' attribute" - box, so that I can still be recognized under my maiden name. But my maiden name is not credited anymore, all my credits have been changed to the new name instead.

If you changed the name recently, it could be that the update is not complete yet and credit attributes have yet to be added.

However, it is also possible that IMDb changed the update. If so, you can add (as ...) attributes to your past credits manually.

Where would I see if IMDB has "finished" updating?

Changing 40+ credits manually would be properly annoying.. Especially since IMDB actually has this checkbox to keep the old name with the credits.

If it's been more than a day or two since the name was changed on the site, I wouldn't expect anything else to change.

If you post the reference number of your update, staff may be able to see what happened.

Hi Johanna -

It looks like you submitted the name change correctly by check-marking the "update existing credits with 'as' attribute" box.

Let's wait another 24 hours and see if the credited "as" credits are corrected with your old name. If nothing changes in the next 24 hours let me know and I will investigate this further.

hi again,

so now I've waited, and my data got messed up properly:

while waiting, I thought I should submit the addition "aka *maiden name*", which I did.

And now I am credited as two persons:

under my new name with (I) and without anything added, all my old credits are listed.

and under my new name with an added (II) and with "aka Johanna *Maiden Name*" only my latest credit is listed

The way I actually submitted my name change (new name with an added "as Johanna *Maiden Name*" on my old credits) is still not showing at all.

Can somebody please help?

It sounds like this can be fixed with a name merge, but I'd recommend not doing anything until the changes have gone through and everything has been updated as it either might fix itself or you could keep making it worse.

Give it a week and then if you still have two entries for your credits then submit a name merge:

Unfortunately, you misunderstood IMDb's terminology.

In IMDb-speak a Name often refers to a Name page, and each person should only have one name page. What you did, by requesting a new Name was actually tell IMDb that this was for a new Person - someone who doesn't currently have an IMDb page.

What you wanted to do was add a NAKA (Name AKA as opposed to AKA for Title AKAs). This is done by selecting to add Alternative Names (3 item on the full Update list - last item in the Names group).

However, this wouldn't actually have helped you at the moment as the Data Processing Times page states :
NAKA data is awaiting migration to a new system and is not currently being processed (backlog dates to April 2012).

It is usually not necessary to enter NAKAs. The (as ...) attribute automatically generates a Name AKA, so only alternatives that don't show up in credits need to be added - such as pseudonyms used for writing novels.

You should follow Emperor's advice and wait until things settle down, then, if necessary, submit a merge.

David,

thanks for taking that time, but what you describe is not what happened. I didn't apply for a new name. I would always go to the page where all my credits are listed. I would click on "update information about Johanna *Name*" and follow those procedures.

On my first try, I changed my name like this:I clicked on "update information about Johanna *Name"", followed the entire routine. I picked the first Item on the list, "name correction": changed name to new name, explained why the name correction, checked the box that says "update existing credits with 'as' attribute" in order to have my maiden name listed with my old credits.

What happened was that my name was changed, but my maiden name got lost: If I'd search on IMDB for my maiden name, the search gave zero results. That's when I posted here, asking what went wrong. As Michelle from IMDB pointed out, I was actually following the correct procedures, and she asked me to wait.

I did wait for two days, nothing happened, and then - because it is actually important for me to be found under both names, I decided to edit again. So again searched my new name, full list of credits showed up, and I again clicked "update information", and just went through the procedure of adding "aka" to my name (3rd item on name updates: Alternative names).

A few days later when I check my name, I am there as described, with two entries under my name, one with "aka Johanna *Maiden Name*" which lists only my latest credit (and which somebody else must have submitted), and once without maiden name and my old list.

So somewhere the IMDB database got confused, and I would actually like the guys from IMDB to fix this, because through the normal routines thus far it just got messed up more and more, and I'm not sure if another submission will ruin the bit that is left.

So, IMDB reps, anyone reading? Can this be fixed please to the changes that I was actually submitting?
