After IMDb has changed its layout I can nowhere find any private letter. Some friend may well have posted some very important letters.
- - I have tried the help function. I shall quote the idiotic answer I received.

How do I display and read a private message?
To display the private messages you've received, click on the "Private Messages" link in the block of links in the upper right of the boards pages.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

But there is no block of links in the right upper corner on any kind of pages.
- - Likewise, there is no block of links on any kind of pages, that contains the words "Private Messages", which I am supposed to click on.
- - I cannot help feeling that IMDB must be aware of such errors. If I were more paranoid I would conclude that the help function was constructed for teasing the user.

In the new message board pages you should see a box on the right with your username and image and a link to your messages.

The direct link to your private message is
http: //www.imdb.com/ user/ur9999999/boards/pm/

Where ur9999999 is your user ID. Note: I added blanks so the full link is visible.

You can see the box with the number of messages if you are on your "Your Boards Profile" page or on a message board page.

This is what it looks like for me:
