ON TOPIC: Unfollowing issues

Hey guys,

Can you please go to this post on GS central and "me too" if this is bothering you too.

This is a problem for me as well. Is there a way to disable the "auto follow" on GS threads? I can't comment on any thread without getting attached to "follow" it. Even when I manually "unfollow" a thread, if I comment on it again I get resigned up to follow it. This is a major pain since I am on the IMDb Poll Board that posts frequently throughout the day.

I am not sure this the answer??? But try modifying your profile settings under Email & Notifications and uncheck the default settings.

Send me email at my primary email address about new replies on topics I have posted, replied to, or followed
Send me email at my primary email address about new topics posted on products that I follow
Send me email at my primary email address about stars on my replies and comments
Send me email at my primary email address about me toos on topics I have posted

PS, Me too, I had the same feeling and found it frustrating. I am sure there is a bit a learning curve to getting acclimated to a new set-up. But, It seems like a dis-incentive to comment. Regardless, whether the reason is user or system based, it should designed for ease of use and to minimize these types of issues.

I am not sure about this either. But, I also don't think it is visually as clear to some users, as it was before, on where to start a new reply comment, So, I think posts are being posted as replies by some users, resulting in cascading effect on all previous posts and commenters.

Didn't work. I unchecked all those settings and I'm still getting signed onto "follow" on any thread I comment on. :(

Jen,

After un-checking the boxes don't forget to click on the green colored 'Save Emails & Notifications' box.

If you do not click on the 'Save Emails & Notifications' box, you'll still get emails.

I did save it properly and all the boxes are unticked. But I still get connected to follow upon every post.

Jen,

If you uncheck all the boxes then you'll not get any mail from GS based on your activity but you'll still be connected to those posts.

I guess the only solution is to check your profile for recent posts at the end of a session or every couple of days and "unfollow" to keep the flow of e-mails manageable. I would agree, there should be a better way.
