I consider this a very low priority.
I do not consider this a bug, but simply a quirk of the new message board software.
I noticed that someone I had in my friends list deleted their account. Out of curiosity, I checked to see whether I could still send a PM to this user. The send button is still active.
I sent a PM and the message board software indicates that I sent the PM.

if the deleted user replies, It would like sending a message to the dead..hehe :P
