... or the few left.

I guess there comes a point when one should know it's time to leave, and the last exchange I had made me believe it was such a moment. There's no way that something supposed to be a source of fun and additional pleasure, brings you so much negativity people in your home start staring at you as if you had the weight on the world on your shoulders.

This is certainly not a pivotal time in the history of IMDb so I won't inflict my lengthy posts on everybody, and will just say a polite, anticlimactic, but no less sincere goodbye to those who valued my polls enough to select them, comment on them or make new suggestions and were friendly and nice whatever "disturbing" comments or opinions I expressed.

To Dan, Peter, Kyle, albstein, Jen, Tsar, ruby, NPortman, DC and anyone who's not thinking "good riddance" right now, thank you for everything and keep up the good work!

Cheers,

ElM.

sdk...

don't you dare leave
...

i know what (and who) you are referring to and it's not you who should leave...

he has had problems with many people on here (just look at some of his previous recent encounters)...i stopped my conversation with him one time when i started feeling the nip of his blade...but others, like yourself, have been run right thru with it...

he couldn't care less about what anyone else has to say...he always thinks he's right and everybody else is a moron with no point in breathing an opinion, because what they think doesn't matter anyway...(that's when you realize there is no point 'discussing' with someone who won't 'discuss' unless you agree with them...)

but most of us are here to discuss...to act like adults and to share our thoughts no matter what they are...and, as you say, for it to be a source of fun and pleasure (which it always has been with you)...

don't let the bully run you out of town...he is the only one on here that has ever caused any problems with anyone...just ignore him if you must...

everyone is welcome here with their opinions...and if they don't wanna belong, they can just take their ball and go home...

Oh, it's history now, for me as well as for him, I didn't know there were similar incidents before, so I'm taking this into a whole new perspective. Let's make this a goodbye, not a farewell.

From the person who makes the best polls about quotes, comes an incredible quote that everyone (not just on GS, but every human being*) would do well to remember. I'll certainly being saying that to myself for quite a while and adding it to my list of little pieces of wisdom.

I am pretty busy these days with my personal works, so don't get enough time to visit each and every posts on this board.

Just now I opened GS and found this post. Can somebody please tell me what exactly happened to Elmo? Who posted bad things about him?

As per my knowledge, I think it is the home page poll issue that Elmo is disappointed to. If it is anything else, somebody please tell me.

There was a bad argument here:

Hi, DC, I used to openly express my discontent about the homepage thing, but I don't think it would have convinced me to leave the board, not permanently anyway.

Like the others said, there was a bad argument and I couldn't take the aggravation.

No ElM :'( It's not fair! You have really made the board what it is today and your absence of homepage polls will remain one of IMDb's greatest mysteries - please do come back eventually; it's your passion. The board will not be the same without you wittiness.

It's not about the homepage (or maybe at 5% lol), i'll just relax a little and dedicate more time to movies and reviews, so I'm still an active IMDb member. Now, we've been through a very difficult time where we had to mourn the message boards and having to deal with negativity in that very context was more difficult than usual. Cheers, we can still talk via our private mails.

Hi there, thanks for the kind replies.  I guess I'll just take a leave of absence, no big deal, we all do it  every once in a while and I just feel the need to breath a little.

ElM,

I understand and respect your decision to take a leave of absence. I personally hope it is not for long. The majority of the poll authors enjoy and respect your contributions.

In the interim, please enjoy your time with family.

Please don't leave. I concurred with what everybody said here. You are an extremely valuable asset and addition to this community. Your departure will only deminish it.
The thing about your conversation with Terick is the you critized his favorite artist, Madonna. He is obliviously a Madonna fan. Look at how he went after me when I critized her ten times harder than you did. I knew he was trying to piss me off with those "simplistic" and "Roman Catholic " remarks . But I Just put him on the back burner for now because I have other things to do. But I have a few things he probably ignored or didn't know about. So, never let these guys rile you to the point of keaveing because they win if you do that. Just step away gracefully and don't fall for the bait. As for me, I will reply to him but on my own terms, not his..

I recommend you take some time off, and come back when you feel like it. I'm not going to think of ill of you if you permanently leave, because that's your decision, and not mine, but I like your presence here (though your Godfather obsession wears a little thin at times). If you come back in three weeks, or three months, or three years, well, good for you. If you never come back, I'll just assume your offline life improved, and will be happy you're happy.

Elmo, why I am not very active since we were forced into Get Satisfaction and while I think you and I not usually discuss each other polls, I think your work is one fo the most creative and valuable to the polls, and I always enjoy reading your ideas. I hope you come back.

I have a message for each and every members of IMDb Poll Board, specially Elmo and Willy.

Every members here are valuable contributors. If you can't tolerate someone's point of view, that doesn't mean you have to leave the board. If someone misbehaved with you, that doesn't mean you have to leave the board.

You people are not kids. Please try to act like a professional. If you can't tolerate someone, simply ignore his/her. But, please don't leave everything behind.

Here on GS, every post is visible on the home page. There are a lot of people from movie industry visit GS for customer support everyday. If they see these posts, they'll think that there is no coordination among the registered IMDb users who work as volunteer for this company.

There are some people on GS used hate speech against me and my family couple of months ago. Did I leave everything? No, I talked to them politely and told them not to use those words and when they didn't listne, I simply ignored them and later, I sent Dan a mail about the whole incident.

Just DO NOT leave.

I never answered that post of yours DC.

I also deal with hostility once in a while but when it comes from people you used to appreciate, you know there's something going wrong. As much as I would hate to leave the board permanently right now, I feel the need to take a few weeks of "absence". I wouldn't want to have troubles because of a discussion that went too far.

So it's a non-event, but don't be surprised if I'm not answering in the next two or three weeks. Maybe when I'll reach the 1-million vote mark...

Cheers everybody...

ElMo, The polls wouldn't be the same without your creativity, intelligence, and knowledge, and the GS poll board wouldn't be the same without your friendliness, openness, thoughtful and thought provoking discussions, and sense of humor. I will respect any decision you make, of course, but I hope you don't stay away for long. You're one of a kind, and I'm lucky to have gotten to work with you and get to know you. If you take a break, however long, be well and know that there will be people back here who miss you.

Sdk Elmaruecan, when I had replied to dan congratulating you for reaching 900,000 votes, I had remembered that you had posted this thread. Are you glad now that you did not leave? Everything people had said about your polls and replies being innovative, thought provoking and an addition to the IMDB community, is (not “was”) IS TRUE. By you staying, you triumphed over adversity and a low point. Some would say that is “inspiring”. Again, congratulations and a job very well done.

Thanks a lot :)

It's funny how these old posts can give you a second reading (literally) of your previous states of mind. I can remember the exact context when I posted this farewell message and it reminded me of other moments throughout the years where I thought it was time to 'call it a day' and start 'getting a life'.

But whenever I was out for a while, I pulled myself back in sooner or later... because I just enjoy doing this, I guess it's about having fun. It all starts with "what if this idea was made into a poll?" and I was surprised to see that even the craziest ideas could make it. I know I've been vocal about many 'negative' aspects but one thing I've got to hand to the editors or whoever are in charge with the selections, is that they have a good sense of humor and they encourage creativity. That's good enough a reason to stay...

... not to mention the interactions with everyone. The message boards were a tremendous loss but I'm glad some of us are still here trying to keep the spirits up.

To be honest, there are still many elements of adversity 'bothering' me right now but I know I'll be in serious trouble the day I'll stop caring about all my IMDb-related activities. It could happen but I hope it won't.

Of course I'm not deleting my account, that's the last thing I ever want to happen and it's precisely because I want to keep my account safe that I'll avoid from now on anything that can ever jeopardize it... I'll keep on reviewing movies and minding my own business. And well, that's all I have to say... the rest can still be said in private :)

I remember before I started on the poll board I remembered that so many of the polls on the page would always say "Suggested by elmaruecan" and thing man this guy most have an in with IMDb and being inspired to learn once you were a user that i could contribute poll ideas too. I will echo the sentiments posted on this post and say that f you do leave it will only be for a while. Take care and remember we'll miss you.

EIM, please don’t leave. Why? I specifically need you input on a poll that started about almost a year ago ,( it is right now on private) that was hopefully to be published this year because the 175th anniversary of the publication of “A Christmas Carol” is coming up. My poll is to be about which film would Charles Dickens would approve of as the best adaptation of his carol. Why? Because Dickens really did hate anybody messing around with his carol. He thought people were trying to put forth ideas were not his in his story. He had left theater plays alone because they were an add for book sales at the time. But Fickens did go after those who published.plagiarized versions on his story. Right now my poll is a mess because I am listing films and comment were they were faithful to the story and where they weren’t. I need you help and everyone else’s to straighten this very hard poll out.
