Outdated release date in title

I am trying to work out why i cant seem to update my films release date in its title. The release date section has been successfully updated to 2015 but the title is stuck at 2013 My reference is 140429-220437-880200 and my concern is that i am potentially screening at Raindance 2014 and I am worried that the old title date will put off distributors who may think the film has already had a release. John Owen / Director. Many thanks

What's the film? And is there any screenings listed under releases where it was already shown publicly?

The film is Peter Gaya Kaam Se. This is a world premiere and first public screening actually.

I believe the system for displaying the release year in the title is automated. It should be pulling the data directly from the release date section as (2015).

When was the 2015 release date added? The system can sometimes take 2 to 3 weeks to process and update the title with a newly added release year.

Aside from updating the release year (as you have done), that may be the best you can do until an IMDB employee checks this thread. IMDB employees tend to read this forum Monday through Friday during business hours. If there is an actual bug in the system preventing this change from going through they will need to check it on the back end.

My opinion is that you more than likely just need to wait for the automated system to crawl through the updated release date and correct itself. If you don't get a reply from IMDB here in the next week or so or the change to the title year does not go through in 21 days after the release date section was fixed, bump this thread again and let them know it isn't working.

See David's response to another user here: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topi.... As Vincent said, you will have to wait for the automated change to happen.

Ok thanks Vincent...I just checked, the release update was made in may so there must be a glitch in the process.. As you advise i will keep this alive til a staffer gets on to it. Many thanks ... John

Hi guys but my film is still unreleased and likely to remain so until 2017. The fact that it has a release date as 2013 is continuing to cause embarrasment and hinderance to our efforts to find the film a distributer. What do i have to do to correct this?

Hi,

While you can't directly control the title year, you can start by submitting an update to remove the listed release dates if they are not correct.

You can also submit a production status (bottom of the main update form) so your film does not appear as released.

Any later updates to the release date/year are probably more likely to take effect if these things are corrected first.

Note also that the title page contains a link to "1 critic" "review" from 2013:
http://www.weirdangles.com/2013/09/peter-gaya-kaam-se-reviews-ratings.html
(Note:  That page may fail to load properly.  If you see only a
banner but no further text, see Google's cached copy instead.)

But that is not a review.  That page contains only a summary of basic data
and a trailer.  (That page also shows the old 2013 release date.)

You may want to ask IMDb to remove the link,
because that page is not a critic review.

(BTW, note also that the IMDb title page shows 41 user rating votes
for the film.  Were those votes submitted after a public screening
or a private screening?  Or are those votes "fake"?)

Thanks for these insights. The user ratings will be fake I imagine.. We have only ever had one screening last year at Raindance and I don't think there were more than 50 in the audience. And yes there is a fake critic too.. Many thanks for alerting me to this data.

... one screening last year at Raindance ....
So, the film was publicly screened in 2014?

I don't represent IMDb and I'm not an expert on their policies,
but if I understand correctly from the reference pages linked below,
IMDb generally prefers to list the "year of first public screening"
in parentheses alongside the title.

http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?titleformat
>  "... [IMDb] associate[s] the year of first public screening with each title ...."

http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?top5
>  "... All titles include the year of first public exhibition as part of the title ...."

http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/title_formats
>  "... All titles must include the year of first public screening enclosed in ( )'s ....
>   ... The year in ( )'s should be the year of first public screening ....
>   ... For movie titles this year is either the year of general release
>       or of a festival presentation if earlier ...."    [Emphasis added.]

Well, in that case you should submit the 2014 festival date as a release date.
