You have some that I wouldn’t call a heist movie. “The Sting” is a con game, not a heist. It is still stealing but it is where the criminals defraud you out of your money. And I wouldn’t call “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” a heist film ether because they didn’t steal the money. Someone else stole it.
Stanley Kubrick had a good one. “The Killing” https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049406/...
There is:
- The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063688/...
- Thief (1981) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083190/...
- How to Steal a Million- a romantic comedy you may not want on this list https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060522/...

Call it a con game or call it heist - but please don't remove The Sting - it's brilliant!

Oh, make no mistake about it. I love the movie. I think it is one of the last truly great films that deserve the Best Picture award. I just don’t believe it fits this subject and what Breumaster said in the intro. I am just trying to stay true to the subject.

Thank you. I think in 'The Sting' the main characters did a distinguished heist. They betrayed to get the big money and did it with a favour. Cheating is a part of action in many heist movies. Maybe it's not a conventional heist, but many people would count it to.

I made a compromise about it. Now I have a very fine Betty White option.
Uneraseable!

The Sting since I saw it is one of my favorite movies ever, has such an elegant tone and the scam is so methodical, I think it was the first time I was really surprised with a game of thieves in a movie.

The list is stuffed. 35 options are reached. From here on the quality decides, if I kick a movie and put another movie on the list. But please only top quality suggestions from here on. I would call the list ready.

"The Dark Knight" is not really a heist movie, even though there was a heist at the beginning. It was just to show how devious the Joker is. But the further content doesn't attach any further heist. It's just a draw on Gotham's mafia to get the bosses upset and turn Gotham into a madhouse. By the way - I'm really curious about the new Joker movie with Joaquin Pheonix. That might be a great one. ;D

P.S.: These guys in the video are real dumbnuts, but I saw some very more entertaining dumbnuts in nearly equal videos some years ago. It would be more entertaining, if the youtuber would present them with voiceover explanations.

Actually, when which watching the robbery scene in “The Dark Knight” it was ripping of this scene from “The Killing” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IfwHIwP... . A lot of films, including a lot of these on the list, imitate “The Killing@ because it set the standard of heist films that came after.

Thank you for the suggestions. But when I look at options on the list, I don't want to remove any of it for e.g. 'Airport '77'

Hi Breu good poll once again,
There are so many amazing movies on this list, when I was younger I liked that kind of movies more than any other, so I saw many but my favorites are undoubtedly these:
The Sting
Heat
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Inside Man
Ocean Eleven
Inception
Die Hard
Thief

Joe: Thank you for the suggestions. :D
I think 'Dog day afternoon' wasn't really a heist, more like a plain old bank robbery that turned awfully wrong. It had no cleverness or clever plan.
On 'Baby Driver' I was a little disappointed, because I trusted the wrong critc - a critic that sparkled with enthusiasm. I think 'Logan Lucky is much more clever and even funnier.
But I think I will put 'Point Break' and 'The Town' on the list. :D
Thank you. :D

Thank you guys! What a honor - 2 polls in 2 days! Yes! :D
Sorry for reacting so late. I was cut from internet by our renovation.
Still much work, lasting for the end of the week - and maybe longer.
Thank you for choosing my suggestion. :D

Nice list.

I enjoyed Lockout (2012) with Guy Pearce. It's a Sci-fi "heist" where the protagonist is refreshingly chauvinistic. Enjoyable waste of time.

Varun Mahan, it is also court-proven plagiarism of Escape from New York (1981). :)

Well, they improved on that film at the very least! Thanks for the trivia.

Furthermore, over recent decades, Courts have begun to receive criticism for their willingness to impose judgements on creative matters. There has been a statistically notable increase in judgements in favour of those alleging infringements, although the criticism has centred around musical plagiarism, not cinematic.

Varun Mahan, it depends on stylistic preferences, I'd say: while original Escape is by no means perfect, it appeals way more to me than Lockout (2012) and there are quite a few people who would say the same.
