The list page: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls023821638/ is a poll of films where for some reason, like agoraphobia, medical condition, intruders in the house, intruders trying to get in, being held prisoners , or something else, they are essentially are a prisoner in their own home and can’t leave. Discuss these intense psychological thrillers (especially the older films on this list are like that), click here.

This poll is inspired by the book that my book club read. The book is going to be turned into a film. It is about a pathological husband (who tortured and murdered his own mother and framed his father) who holding his wife prisoner in the house and he monitors all communication by her with the outside world. He is not interested in sex. He is loves causing fear and the smell of fear. I can’t say the name of the book because there are many films that already have that title, which means the filmmakers may change the title of the new film.

There's also Funny Games, although it takes place in a vacation home.

I suggest you make the title just "Your Home Is Your Prison" - it's punchier and you can ask the question in the description.

On Funny Games I suggest you use the original and then put a note "or the American remake" - many consider the original vastly superior. You could also add a note to The Desperate Hours about the (inferior) remake.

I haven't seen A Quiet Place, but the trailers show them walking outside in different locales.

Again, haven't seen Hombre, but from the synopsis it seems that they are traveling and are outside in different places.

Just curious, how does Sleeping with the Enemy apply?

FYC:
10 Cloverfield Lane
The Bone Collector
Suddenly (1954)
The Strangers (2008)
Dogtooth
Wait Until Dark
The Collector
The Exterminating Angel
And Then There Were None/Ten Little Indians

Rec/Quarantine? They are trapped in an apartment building.

Jen, you want to know how “Sleeping With The Enemy” applies? In the book I’m for the book club, “Behind Close Doors” by B. A. Paris., the marriage is the same as in “Sleeping With The Enemy”, He makes it look like it is a happy marriage when the truth is he is both psychologically dominating her and torturing her. The difference is that in Behind Closed Doors, the House is a cleverly disguised prison with hidden remote control roll down steel shutters for all the downstairs windows, a steel door on her real bedroom ( which only has a bed and shower in it), and a phony her bedroom he shows to visitors, and the basement has a hidden torture chamber. The story is told in first person narrative of her point of view. She has to escape him and convince everybody he is crazy.
Honestly, I did think about “Wait Until Dark”.

Jen, that depends if you had seen the “international” version or the “American” release version. The story goes is that one of the sex scene in the film, the first one, had to be edited and shorten down in order to avoid a NC-17 rating. Why? Because the majority of American cinemas refuse to show a NC-17 rated film. The full scene was left in in the international version. The scene start with then starting to have sex and gets more graphic and violent as he starts to beat her during sex as punishment for her doing something he disapproved of. In the book i’m reading and soon to be made into a movie, the sex part is not there but the punishment and controlling parts are. Jack Angel, the name of the character in the book, loves the look and smell of fear and enjoys causing it. The book is told through the eyes of Grace who has to get out of the trap and the prison of the house.
Wait, didn’t M. Night Shamalon (I don’t how to spell his name) do one recently about a psych with multiple personalities, holding women prisoners?

dgranger, it's Split (2016), but main character was holding three high school girls captive in a specially constructed chamber and, well, the movie is actually much better then it seems from the synopsis, it's not a dumb slasher flick (says a fan of dumb slasher flicks, but among a lot of many other things). Patented Shyamalan twist works really well and James McAvoy should have been nominated for Oscar in my humble opinion. It also has one or two really deep ideas and moments.

Great idea and, so far, good list.

I noticed a little typo in #1: This is the original version. Don’t confused it with the remake.

FYC:
Mustang
Burning Bed
Enough
Eraserhead

Added two more that brought this list to 35.
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) The section where the kid’s mind keeps everyone trapped in the house.

Found this one while working on another list about movies that were given a NC-17 rating by the MPAA and Editted themselves and resubmit for a re-rating down to “R” ( many movie theaters will refuse to show a NC-17 rated film): Inside (2006). It is about “Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange woman who wants her unborn baby.” Scary!

You have a superfluous word here:
...they are essentially are a prisoner in their own home and can’t leave.

And in #1 it should be:
Don’t confuse it with the remake.

Like I said before, I really like this poll. I'm still not quite sure who'd get my vote because there are so many good movies on the list, but probably 'Mustang,' although maybe 'Desperate Hours' or 'Panic Room.' It will be interesting to see the results.

May I suggest a few edits to the (good, suspenseful) intro? (one is the same edit to the typo that Jess noticed; edits in bold below)

This is a poll of films where for some reason, like agoraphobia, a medical condition, intruders in the house, intruders trying to get in, being held prisoners, or something else, they are essentially prisoners in their own home and can’t leave. What is the Best “Your Home is Your Prison” Movie?

My apologies to both Jessica and rubyfruit. I like this poll too. I will make the changes shortly. The one edit was just bad grammar.
