Hi web developers, I have a suggestion for a feature I'd love to see implemented on imdb.com.  I realize this is longer form feedback, and I'll try to be brief.

I saw on iegallery.com that imdb.com supports Internet Explorer pinned site, where you can drag the tab/favicon down to the taskbar for a pinned imdb.com icon and right-click jump list.

I'd like to encourage you to consider adding support for pinned sites on the Windows & Windows Phone Start screen tiles.  This only requires a couple site META tags (just like the ones you already use for pinned site or for Facebook open graph tags), and provides even more capabilities to draw users into your site directly.

Users that "pin" your site to the Start screen will have more than a bookmark icon. You can attach your RSS feed so that your tile "flips over" to show the latest breaking headlines and images.  It's more than a bookmark, and it feels like an app to the user. It would also be awesome to sniff the browser and provide some discovery on your page that lets users know they can pin the site for this great functionality.

You can see the basic capabilities by pinning my site (my tech blog at CmdrKeene.com).  You can reference MSDN for the meta tags, or even build the base capabilities easily using the wizard at buildmypinnedsite.com.

I hope you’ll take this suggestion under consideration, and I thank you for allowing users like myself to provide feedback.

Hi Shawn Keene,

Thank you for posting this suggestion. I was not aware of Pin Site Mode.

I'm assuming that this is where you reference "Pin Site Mode" on your blog.

This is a rather intriguing idea, which looks relatively simple to implement.

Please note: I am not an IMDb staff member. It is up to the IMDb technical staff to evaluate your suggestion.

That's it, Dan.  And yes it's really quite simple to implement, just a couple little tags and an png image for the default icon.  The wizard site basically provides it all for you in about a minute.

If you were going to advertise the feature by detecting the browser is capable of pins, and displaying some type of notification to use the user about it, that would take more work. Microsoft has some sample code for that too, but implementing that takes a little more work (but not much).

I hesitate to use the dirty "a" word, but encouraging users to pin your site on their Start screen is basically like securing free advertising space on the user's home screen that's always visible and updated, even if they never visit your site.  It can really draw them in.

I agree you should get a Pin Button. The reason is because the webpage will show the amount of pins which is great for advertising. I can pin stuff easily manually but more people are using pinterest thin Twitter and Instagram. Lets not be late to the party.
