IMDB POLICY:
Important: Plot summaries must be your own original work and you must not copy them from other sites, publications or other copyright sources. Do not include spoilers.

QUESTION:
>> CAN A PLOT SUMMARY INCLUDE MATERIAL FROM OTHER SOURCES IF THE SOURCE IS CREDITED FOR THE CONTRIBUTION? >> IF THE SUMMARY IS ABOUT A DOCUMENTARY, DOES DESCRIBING THE END CONSTITUTE A "SPOILER"?

Hi remoat -

As per our policy, all copyrighted material is excluded from the plot summaries database; this includes movie guides, newspapers, and even the blurb on the back of the video case.  So if the other source is copyrighted, it cannot be included within the Plot Summary.  For additional information about our guidelines see here.

We define a Spoiler as a remark or piece of information which reveals important plot elements (for example the ending or a major plot twist), thus 'spoiling' a surprise and robbing the viewer of the suspense and enjoyment of the film.  Generally, the ending of a film whether fictional or documentary would be considered a spoiler.

millions of documents are quoted daily with attribution.. to restrict a quote on the basis of copyright is a dubious policy.. i doubt that, with attribution, any source of quoted material would object to their work being used elsewhere..  do you have a specific rationale for this policy? is it just a fear of accountability?
