I ask that the credit title "Sound Designer" would be added in the Occupation menu under Sound Department, as an official and IMDb recognized job title.
Actually, to add this title you need to choose "Other" and then write it by yourself.
This means that it has no weight, nor relevance for the film credit list order, as well as for the "Known For" section.
So, if 'Sound Designer' would be listed in the menu, it will be automatically recognized as relevant.

Sound Design job title now has become more and more popular in the industry, even if still really not in the Union's protocol. It's used by veterans and young professionals. So, IMDb should add this title to their 'Occupation' list.

The items shown in the "Choose" menu are the top 10 occupations in the department by volume. "Sound Designer" will be added automatically when it reaches the top 10.  Whether it is present in that menu has no bearing on the credit listing order on IMDb (which is alphabetical within the sound department) and nor does its presence/absence have any effect on any "Known For" information.

As to needing to manually type it, this is not necessary either: simply click the symbol which I have highlighted with a red box in the grab below and scroll down the list of sound occupations, where you will find "sound designer" listed at #11, click the occupation field and it will be inserted into the submission form.  You can also browse occupations by first letter from the same menu and find any active occupation.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, Col, for your clarification.  It really helps!

So it might be useful if the 'Known For' section would be improved by removing or limiting the factor  "weight" of the job title, as element of selection.

Job titles might always not correspond to how much "known for" that person is.

For example,
a professional might not be known for his credit as 'Director' (heavy title), on a very unknown film; when his credit as 'Rotoscope Artist' (less heavy) in a bigger film should appear in "Known For".

Many times happen that 'Known For' features the wrong credit and others remain below in the list.
I think fixing that, will make happier a lot of users. Thanks again.

Do you have some specific example names where this is happening today?  If so, we can use these as examples to test and fix when we next look at the "known for" system
