To be eligible, a film must have been released after August 1, 2016, be classified under Feature Film, Documentary or TV Movie and have at least 200 user votes. For the time being I've started with the 22 European countries within the 'common' list in the Advanced Search, which still leaves 13 slots open for more countries should anyone want to throw in a wildcard. The selected films are some of the highest rated for each country within the aforementioned eligibility conditions, but I'm open to change the film pick for a certain country if asked.

For me, Réparer les vivants (2016) is a French film and not a Belgian film. In fact, I searched a couple of Belgian movie websites and I couldn't find any link to Belgium other than two out of the ten sponsoring co-producers being Belgian companies. It's filmed in France, most actors are French and the director is French as well.

Maybe it's better to take Home (2016), which is a real Belgian film, produced and directed in Belgium and starring Belgian actors.

I have seen three of these: Underverden (Denmark), Heartstone (Iceland) and Dancer (Russia, though I think the film is more British).

I rated Underverden the highest.

EfraGarcia59,

I like your suggestion and I have couple of questions:

1. Are all the films in your list in the competition of 2017 European Film Festival?

2. Are those films representing the respective countries you mentioned under each?

3. Is your list ready, or are you planning to make any further updates?

To answer your questions:
1. This list was not actually meant to have anything to do with the European Film Festival. If any of the films entered in the Festival happens to be listed here too, it's a mere coincidence.
2. Yes, those films were picked to represent their respective countries in the poll.
3. Revisions are finished. The list is now ready.

After re-checking for potential candidates, the new Czech entry will be The Zookeeper's Wife.
