I'll go with Fantasia (1940). A pioneering work of art, perfectly blending the excitement of grand symphony music with surreal animated visuals. Still holds up as a masterpiece.

Does the number of votes really matter? I don't think there were so many animated movies in the old days that we need to use this as a parameter of selection.

In my opinion, I think you should forget about the vote thing, because otherwise your list will simply ignore Gulliver's Travels: Fleisher Studios' answer to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a film nominated for two Oscars, a charming little classic in its own right and simply said: THE SECOND ANIMATED FEATURE OF HISTORY.

That achievement alone should earn the film more respect, it's not as celebrated as Disney classics but it's nonethelles the second animated feature of history, and I grew up with it.

Elmo,

If I remove the number of votes parameter, I would have got this:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=animation&title_type=feature&sort=year,asc

The poll would lost it's chance to get published.

Gulliver's travels has 3400 votes, what would happen if you lowered it to 3000?
Seriously, we're talking of the second oldest animated feature, an Oscar-nominated movie with catchy songs and a fine piece of entertainment from the Fleischer studios (at least they tried to answer to Disney)...the problem with the list is that it makes it look as if only Disney made animated film during the Golden Age.

Seriously... its unconceivable that "Gullivers Travels" is missing... it really was NOT a subjective suggestion. When rules lead to such blatant absences, you can change the rules. Thanks anyway.

My first thought must have just missed the timeline cut, The Secret of NIMH.

I am bit surprised Song of the South (1946) had the votes since its hasn't been released since the days of Beta, VHS and LaserDisc. It also hasn't been shown in the US since 1986 for the film's own 40th anniversary. The film has been broadcast on European television, including the BBC as recently as 2006.

Steamboat Willie (1928) has over 5000 votes. If you don't want to include short movies, maybe your title should be "Oldest Animated Features".
