We're in 2019, and so far it's an interesting cinematic year with the last Tarantino darling and the next Scorsese baby... not to mention a few superhero hits.

But let's take a step back 13 years ago... in 2006, and 13 years before, and before, traveling backwards every 13 years, the 13 connection will take you to nine different years with a set of 13 movies, 12 listed and one as the defining picture (a cult classic with 13 letters).

Which of these cinematic years do you think was the most culturally significant? (yes, the question has 13 words)

Hey Peter,

It's a kind of a new hobby, to call myself an expert would be a stretch but ever since I learned to count, I was quite the "number" geek, finding connections between life and numbers, counting the letters in a word, the days in a time span etc.

You can say there's a fascination somewhere...

And you?

Not really! But I guess I have a preference for some numbers, times on the clock, etc.

1993.  Also I suggest you put Hocus Pocus to that; it started as kind of a bust but became a huge classic, with reunion shows and annual airings constantly around Halloween.

Really? I had a hard time narrowing it down to 13 for 1993, if I add Hocus Pocus, which movie should I remove? Never saw the film, only read that:

Well, it's up to you, of course.  I don't know which you should remove, having not seen all of those myself.  :)  Hocus Pocus is a bit cheesy, but it's nostalgic and a fun Halloween movie, and the three main actresses are pretty funny.
Here's a song scene from the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwpaA5HGo9k

Not giving more value to Ebert's opinion than yours, but it might be redundant to have both Nightmare before Christmas and this one in the same list... and I don't have the heart to remove Burton's film... sorry...

Looks like 13 is your lucky number.

Well, the only connection I have with that number is that the happiest thing that ever happened to me was in 2013 when I was 31 ... 8 is still my fetish number.
