I'm ranging from 26-50 (Jumanji - The Next Level) - however, that's NOT one movie I intend to watch!

That can always happen. Sometimes when I took an experiment on guessing or experimenting, I also was disappointed. I usually have a good nose for movies that excite me, but also fail. Rarely but yet. That's life! ;)

Changed the intro a little to keep it shorter & make it more clear and exact.
So the content changed a little to the past (the last year).

0 - 10 ... I'm not so into it. I like a good book better.

Actually, in my case I tend to re-watch older films.

I am most definitely a film freak and my "to watch" list for this year is roughly 360 movies, most of the list being movies I haven't seen yet (which for me is the main purpose of having a curated list at all: I discovered in 2018-2019 that I can vurtually forget for years that I wanted to watch something and first list in 2019 had some cases that I was circling for 10 years already). There is also expanded list, since I also have roughly 74 movies of 2019 list catch-up and a similar amount of "to watch at some point". That roughly makes 500-505 movies.

Realistically it's a hard-to-impossible challenge. Counting some of the partial views (I do in cases when I had no control over circumstances, like glancing over something in cinema as it ends, TV, etc.) and technically feature films, not all of which are convenionally considered movies (some live streams, minimal features of 45 minutes, amateurish shoddy half-productions, partially lost movies etc.) the number of previously unseen movies I was able to reach in 2019 was 164 (54 of them from the list which had roughly 130 entries). But 2019 was kinda weak in that regard and I might be closer to 300 this year, I guess. I think I'll be fine if I'll be able to take 200-250 movies from the list, but the more the merrier.

Marianna (cinephile), I can't quite get people who scarcely rewatch a movie and rarely rewatch even favorites, but that's just me and my attention span is so odd it always shifts to something new each viewing, despite noticing overall situation, as well.

For years I thought of that as one of the essential qualities of a good movie, but that really could be said about any movie in my humble opinion: the difference is in how engaged you are in the movie in the first place, it seems, and I seem to be engaged in most movies, even those I don't appear interested in: if I dragged into something I never quite wanted to see I still look for things, which makes overall experience better... With years I really wonder whether it's actually a rare psychological conditioning I happen to have as a filmmaker and a film fan. It seems that a lot of (hyperactive) film directors naturally have that, as evidenced by enormous lists of favorite movies.

Edgar Wright once dropped a bomb of a list with 1000 entries, while many professional directors often exceed the usual numbers of 5 to 10 favorite movies. My own list of most favorite movies was 25 for several years which slowly expanded after initial 22. It expanded to 27 in the end of last years, incidentally with me being 27 years old. Two new entries which are not yet listed on IMDb (I think I'll make a new list for that) are Lost Highway (1997) and Glass (2019). I actually might re-visit the list each three-to-five years specifically trying to correlate the list with my age. Considering I saw an approximate number of a few thousands and I'm still 27, that might have sense in it, but I have highly specific criteria. Drive (2011) might be an entry I might add at some point in the future. It seems to stand the test of time.

Even then, these 25-27 are some extra special movies, which just mesemerize me enough to return to them a lot and I'm nearly always in the mood if I encounter them and rejoice at any mention. I never tried to conduct a list of just favorite movies, those which I enjoy watching. That would easily be 200-250 movies minimum. Plus I mostly try to approach animation separately (which I do find a one-sided approach so it might change over the years).

I can't judge every movie by their capacity to stand against the time, because some movies like The Usual Suspect can be enjoyable after a second time, but you won't fall in the plot twist a second time, which will make the movie less gripping.
On the other hand, you can watch James Bond, Dunkirk, Chinatown or as you said Drive because of action sequences or even some specific dialogues are rewatch

Marianna (cinephile), rewatch value is interesting in terms of how undefined and specific it is: for something that seems to be well-established and documented phenomena (the whole point of cult films is that they have increased rewatch value, which gets bigger with time), you can't quite pinpoint what makes it tick and in many cases it's a purely subjective quality, compared to that of liking a certain food.

I'm also oddly spoiler immune: I can easily spoil massive twists for myself but then be excited to either see other people react to that or how well overall scene looks in context.

Marianna & Nikolay:

So to the club of loosers (It, 2017, 2019), there comes a club of freaks. :D
I'm, too. I will count them, but I know by now, that they're 300+.

When time went by, I even can watch older movies and get scared again, because with 5 to 10 years of distance, I've forgotten enough of it, to experience a movie on a new base. But with some of the best twist movies, that might happen only once or twice. When I watch them further times even with a huge time distance, I can't be scared by the twist, but still feel the feeling I had the first time. So it's ok for me. And there are movies I could watch a hundret times and wouldn't get bored like 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'.

I never counted, or can guess how many I watch every year, but I do watch a lot. And one out of every three movies that I watch is something I've already seen. I couldn't give a toss if I already know the twist or not. A movie is an experience for me, a revisiting of memories. It's not a whodunit.

I can enjoy a movie like, say, Pulp Fiction, for the 100th time, even if I know most of the dialogue by heart by now. I can watch Ealing comedies every day, they're worth it simply for the proper use of the English language. I can watch any movie with Alain Delon, Michael Caine, Lino Ventura, Anthony Quinn again and again, because I like them.

On the other hand, I've never seen a Fast & The Furious movie, and I don't intend to. I saw the trailer of the first one I think, and that was enough. In fact I made a bet with my buddies (who criticize me for mocking newer action movies, saying I'm snobbish) that I could randomly select a scene from one of those movies, and there was no way they could identify which movie the scene was from. They didn't accept the bet, of course, knowing they would lose. That wasn't the case for the Terminator films ,or Star Wars or Indiana Jones films. But nowadays most films, especially action films, are too alike. So watching a new release is no longer an exciting idea for me, like it was when I was a kid.

I respect that. But it's simply not complicated. Beside all discussion the core of the quest is defined by the core question of the idea:

"How many movies you never saw before did you watch past 365 days (year) for the first time?"

If you can't answere the question  approximately (your feeling on it) correct, then you still can take the poll, but it would make no sense. It's a personal guess, not a contest of proven correctness. I'm not the FBI. ;)

Oh ok, I must have misunderstood the context. In the last 12 months I must have watched probably 120 to 150 movies for the first time. About 40 to 50 of these were because of my job (translation, so I had to watch them) the rest were my own choices. The ones I translated were mostly new movies, but those I opted to watch were mostly pre-2000 titles.

So you watched 2000 movies by decision. How many of these ~2000 were (guessed) probably new? I would add the 150 to them. But wow, your life happens on a cinema seat, is it? ;D Maybe the option with oblivion is yours? ;) *justkidding*

Ardan, do you have a suggestion for the list. I see, you are more into it, as I can ever be. How would you describe your personal option from your situation. I guess 'oblivion' is the wrong word for it, on your side. :D

I only meant that I have to watch & translate newer movies (because that's what is aired on tv stations) but the ones I prefer to watch myself are often made before the year 2000 (considered older, not by me, but generally)

I haven't watched 2000 movies in a year, of course. I buy more than a thousand in a year, mostly blu-rays, but don't have the time to watch that many. As I said, I've watched probably around 150 last year, at most.

What the hell is a wildcard in this context?

I can tell you I've seen 72 never before seen movies at the movie theater.
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls040651531/

I'm not sure how many movies I've seen at home in 2019. The IMDb advanced search engine cannot help in that department because you cannot narrow the ratings down to the year you rated them.

I'm not sure how to figure out the math from this point.

Hi, Stephen. :D

I for myself am not sure, if these are the best wildcards, except #1 & #8.
I might change Tenet to another movie, because it is a future release. It's just because some people just see about 20 movies in one year, because they read something about it or got told to come with. Most of these I guess as blockbusters. That's why I've chosen the wildcard 'Tenet'. I will change it for sure. Ideas wellcome.

To narrow it down to the year, it's how much movies I rated a last year. I don't need a list for that. It is close enough for me, if people guess how often they've seen a new movie this year. I for myseld re-rated movies over last year, but still remember when I re-rated a movie so can decrease the ammount according to the databases date datas. If I want, I could tell you exactly which new movies I've rated. There is only a small black number I could have forgotten. :D

The math is about getting close to the interval the user watches movies. Again ... that isn't exact. I just want aproximately correct numbers. This is not a math or physician contest. ;D

When someone has seen 365 movies last year, it's 1 movie a day. If someone has seen 150 movies last year, it comes close to a movie every 2nd or 3rd day. It's about "consuming" new material. I'm a freak for sure. ;)

P.S.:
It's not only at the movie theatres. It's from every media, like stream, DVD, Bluray, VHS, Beta-Max, the movie theatres, Stoneage wall paintings and even flipbooks. :D Every movie I rate, I've seen shortly before. If I remember a formerly years seen movie, I'd still rate it, but take it out of the sum. In other words: Anyone Just guesses her/his/* ammount, that's also ok. ;D

Made it a little more precise, because it's not easy to remember in Oktober 2020, what one saw in the beginning of 2019. So back for 365 days. Change:
"... did you watch past 365 days (year) for the first time?"

Hi Breu,

I can't quite understand the context of the question, you to be asking how many movies I saw last year? If I'm correct, I guess I'm a movie maniac. When I create my IMDb account (at the beginning of 2019) I only registered about 300 rated movies, now I've rated 700 movies, about 350 movies watched last year, without count those that I had already seen and I had to check them one more time to qualify them.
There was a really hectic season for me, I watched up to 2 movies or more per day.

It's not about the exact the ammount of movies you saw last 365 days. It's more about how of them were new.  When you think you saw 350+ new movies, you might be a movie maniac. That's ok. ;) I think people will decide the answere by their feelings about the issue, maybe many of them will pick a amount way more than the exact ammount of movies they would have seen. Guessing ...

I reviewed 1600 movies in a span of 9 years, which mean 1600 watchings and maybe 30 re-watching per year so I guess it mounts up to an average of 200 movies every year.

Welcome, ElMo. Did you see 200 or 201 a year? I guess you might have.  As I said, it's not exact. :D It's your own consideration if it were 200 or 201. ;D It's the emotional component that exceeds borders. If you want, you can also count your ratings or reviews and decide then.

The issue about the last 365 days was mentioned by me, because when someone is taking the poll in November 2020, she or he might have troubles remembering what he or she saw in the year 2019. I wanted it as a 365-days-countback-question. Sorry, I have no other words for it. They should count from the point they're standing right now, e.g. 01/14/2020 --- from there 365 days back to 01/14/2019.

I'm a cross between 2 and 3... I do watch movies I've never seen before quite often, but with life going on I can also just let the same 'I Am Dragon' or MST3K play all week, lol.
But I guess 3 is more accurate.

Hi Breu, I think the intro has improved but I still get a bit confused and distracted by these first two sentences:

This issue includes all technical formats. Please guess your former year.

If you don't think that they're necessary, I would delete them. If you think they are needed, I'd suggest including it in a note below the discussion link. The following is very good, clear, and it seems to me, all you need.

How many movies did you watch for the first time the past year? (Including older, old and very old movies you saw for the first time.

I wrote a suggestion for the 10 Freak comandments. It should be 11, but I struggled with myself about the *bump*ing paragraph. ;D

The 10 Freak Commandments

01. Never feel shame about being a freak

02. Mostly all freaks are good freaks, be a good freak

03. Never blame other freaks for being a freak

04. Live for your interest. Don't dream it, be it.

05. Redupiate general conformity, except law and good social behavior

06. Free your mind from repressive restrictions about „the other freaks“

07. In every human slumbers a freak - help the other freaks to come out

08. Help them to be good freaks, but protect yourself from bad freaks

09. Love, the will for peace, understanding and effort are good things

10. Freaks are not necessarily nerds and nerds are not automatically freaks

... just for fun ... ;D

I don't have the exact number, but I watch films at home every friday and saturday, and they are practically always new, I also go to the movies at least 25 times, and when I have the chance I watch a film in the morning, so I now it was more than 104, but I don't think more thatn 200.
