According to the German wikipedia site, the first commercial cinematic presentation for an audience was 123 years ago in 1895 a.d. on bioskop-format in the Berliner Wintergarten in Berlin, Germany.
Worldwide: Doc Brown lends you his DeLorean with a proper flux capacitor and two loads of plutonium to travel 100 years back in time to the year 1918, when movies were young, and then back.

What do you think about that?

After fifteen years, the same man arrives in a big city, and he is eager to go to the movie theater. He goes to see the movies that attract big audiences like comedies, adventure movies, etc. Someone asks him, "so what do you think of those movies?" - "They look fantastic, but I don't have the slightest idea what happened."
Apparently, despite his intellectual capacities, the man was unable to link the shots into a coherent narrative; something that was easy even for children at that time. It was all too developed, too fast and arranged with complex codes. Balázs says, "Four or five years ago, we wouldn't have understood the most simple films that are being made today."
It seems incredible what he writes. Let's be optimistc against these statements. My pick is The Shining. I'd like to see what impact a movie that is frightening even to modern audiences can make on the people of 1918.

That's a heavy experiment you would start. Interesting pick!
I hope some others will contribute, too. ;)

Cinema is like a visual language that we learn just as any other. It is actually what I research from the perspective of political studies, by the way.

Didn't the Lumière-brothers cooperate with Edison?
I might be wrong, so I guess the first serious story-teller by moving pictures was Georges Méliès. I think all of the pioneers are surely fascinating. Without them, I wouldn't have a head full of movies. ;)
Nikolay, Do you want to suggest a movie for this poll-suggestion? :)
If you don't want, you don't have to. :D
But I'm curious what of the movies you would pick for the ancients
and maybe why. ;)

The link that Ibrahim provided is polls By Vote and Author. This is a list of polls by all of the poll authors in descending order of vote. This list includes authors who are no longer active; in some cases these authors no longer have an IMDb account.
This is a more concise list of poll authors: Votes by Author

So I follow your funny idea and we let them get really frightened about Yosemite's impending eruption. ;)
I'll put 2012 on the list. Could you please post the link for linking your IMDb-profile? I wonder how your user-name is spoken. Are these Arabian or asian letters/words? I can't read them. Sorry for that. And thank you for contributing. :D

Hello, Mr. Tharindo. I just had time beside my real-life-work to check your suggestion. It doesn't fit with the rules, I sat up. It's not in the Top 250's of 2018. So I had to kick your suggestion. But that doesn't mean, your disqualified. I'm just about to set up other rules, that are more useable. Just look down.

I was not aware Schindler's List was in the Top 250 when I suggested it, and if it had been rejected I probably would not have made the effort to check the Top 250 for a new suggestion.

I think Abi is right. Picking from the today 250-top-movie-list is just too limitated. That doesn't automatically affect the picks of the users, that suggested before. But all of you can repick, after you read the new rules. So with that I skip the Top 250 from 2018 rule.
Everyone can pick any movie she/he wants, as long as they are still not picked, rated 7/10 or higher, with at least 10.000 votes. I sat that rule to 10.000 to make lesser known pictures able and to disable complete trashy movies. So everybody has a wide range of movies he can pick. I reduce the numbers of picks in this P.S. to 25. The first who suggests, is in! So there are at least 15 free picks. One pick per user. Thank you Abi, that was useful, because I tied the rules too tight at first. :) Debateable !
Nikolay: 'Highlander' is in. ;) Mr. Tharindu, you might pick another movie. ;)

You were invited to pick a movie. And it was my bad not proofing your suggestion according to the rules I sat, fast enough. So you are again invited to pick another movie under new rules. You're welcome. :) This time it should match the rules. Thank you for taking part. :D But if you don't want, you don't have to.

The intro. is wonderful, too; 'very informative and interesting. May I suggest just a few minor edits? (They're below in bold.)
According to the German Wikipedia site, the first commercial cinematic presentation for an audience was 123 years ago on the first of November in 1895 a.d. on bioskop-format in the Berliner Wintergarten in Berlin, Germany.
Worldwide: Doc Brown lends you his DeLorean with a proper flux capacitor and two loads of plutonium to travel 100 years back in time to the year 1918, when movies were young, and then back.
What movie - as selected by the IMDb poll board users - rated 7/10 or higher with at least 10.000 votes - would you most likely show your fellow countrymen in past time to see their reactions and tell us later?
(By the way, I love that you have the actual question in bold. I do that too. I only took it out of bold here so that that little edit - and added dash - would be visible in bold.) Your English is really getting quite good. :) I'm envious, lol: you're fluent in at least two of the most useful and most difficult languages. That's impressive.

You're so charming - you must be a wonderful teacher to your students. :) I corrected the typos and the lost 'the'. I learned first by Dan, - later by watching my self taking polls - that much text is a bad chance to get votes. I for myself don't want to read to much, when I take a poll. Sometimes it's needed to write something more. But to have the main question in bold is good for users interest. So many can get their orientation faster.
I've put your suggestion to the list. My goal is to get 25 suggestions, but it doesn't seem to be that easy.
My English is getting better, but that's only the half truth. I'm getting better, but in real life I stumble more when it comes to say something real fluent face to face. Here at the internet, I can train very much, when you look at my replies and comments - they are nearly all edited, some of them up to 25 times, maybe more.
That's because at the internet, one can write, overthink, rethink, write it re-edited again, again, and again. But I learned today, that my English is getting better. I bought a few things at an Japanese supermarket and I was able to get what I wanted and what they had of it. It's funny that the Japanese people here often do speak better English than German. ;)
At the internet I have time to work out, what I mean. Write it down, add something, delete other things, and, and, and. ... That's good for learning, too. That's also a learning by doing process. Here at the internet I learned much more about english, than in my school-time.
Greetings. :)

I've learned English by watching films more than I did in school.
Only thing I remember about my school English period is that,
once my teacher describing me as once in a blue moon. :P
