Hi Nighthawk,
Welcome to the IMDb Poll message board. Thank you for your poll suggestion and thank you for including a properly working discussion link.
I've enjoyed the Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce series of Sherlock Holmes films for many years.
My favorite:
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939)

Hi rocky-o,
The 'Star of India' goes missing on the train. Great twist. Funny conversation about curry. Very good.

Basil Rathbone was a great Sherlock Holmes but apart from Hound of the Baskervilles I have troubles telling the rest apart from each other

Hi Gitte,
I know what you mean. The limitations they were working with made them feel similar.
Here's a quick summary ...
Films 1 & 2 (original Conan-Doyle timing)
1. HOTB - Is it the dog ... or something else
2. Adventures - Moriarty & the 'Star of Delhi' / Crown Jewels
Films 3 - 6 (timing changed to current day 1942-43 & involving World War II scenario in some part)
3. Voice of Terror - German spy ring in England
4. Secret Weapon - Swiss weapon inventor
5. In Washington - Hidden Microfilm
6. Faces Death - secret family fortune
Films 7 - 14 (timing remains as 1944-46 when made with less War based stories)
7. The Spider Woman - mystery suicides
8. Scarlet Claw - Canadian killer
9. Pearl of Death - stolen pearl hidden in Napoleon busts (with the 'Creeper')
10. House of Fear - the 7 good comrades in house begin to die
11. Woman in Green - London serial killer - but why is it happening?
12. Pursuit to Algiers - smuggling royalty back home
13. Terror by Night - Holmes protects a diamond on a train
14. Dressed to kill - three music boxes play a tune ... but why?
Best,
Nighthawk

Thanks Dan
Did I say something/use a word I shouldn't? Certainly didn't mean to do it.
Maybe we need a detective to work it out ;)

Nighthawk,
IMDb is not the only customer for Get Satisfaction. I really do not have a clue why your post triggered the spam filter. There is a remote possibility that words like death, terror and kill may have triggered a filter against threats; but that is entirely speculation on my part and there is really no way to anticipate what triggers the spam filter.

I’m kind of partial to “Sherlock Holmes Faces Darth” because it so different from the rest and has a nice spooky feel to it.

Hi DGranger,
I agree. Good story adapted from Conan-Doyle original (The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual).
There's some great closeups on Rathbone as the story develops and the scenes in the crypt are great.

Good poll and great first poll! My vote: 'Hound' or 'Scarlet Claw,' and I think I'll vote for 'Claw' because it will most likely get less votes. Welcome to the poll board! : )

Hi rubyfruit76,
Thank you for the kind words.
I do like Scarlet Claw. It has an odd eerie feeling at times. For example in the opening scene, when everyone is weirdly still even though time is passing. I'm not sure it was deliberate but it creates the sense something is not right. The beginning of this film is extremely good as you get into the story instantly. It's also a good detective story told through film; there's a motive somewhere and we learn it as the plot develops.

Indeed, the film has such a strong sense of foreboding. I really want to see it again, soon, because I'm starting to forget certain details but what is still very clear is the mood it creates.
It's really nice to have you aboard. Your poll is I think just one of two first polls that I can remember being constructed perfectly from the start. You're a natural. : )

Woo Hoo! Thank you, rubyfruit76 (and Dan) ... that's great news. I really wasn't sure how long it might take.
I have an idea for another one, but I think I need a bit of 'Champions' help/advice. I've started drafting the list and I'm adding a bit of text to each list item including a film 'link' (because it will be an actors list to start). It'll take a little while to create but I think it might be fun one to see responses.

Go ahead and post it as a suggestion: we'd love to see it! And as Pencho says below, there are plenty of people here who are great poll authors who'd happily give you feedback. I was trying to think of how many combined years of poll experience authors such as Dan, ElMo, Pencho, and Peter have and it would be at least 25. I've been making polls for just about six years and they've done it longer so they know of what they speak.
I know I'll be looking forward to see any other poll ideas you may have. : )

'No pressure, of course. Oh, and sometimes if I post a poll suggestion but the list isn't ready yet (a draft, as you said) I'll type, into the introduction / description field, "[Under Construction]" so feel free to do that or indicate there that it's a draft - then it won't go live before you feel that it's ready.

Congratulations Nighthawk, it is not common to have your first poll published so fast, but you followed all the rules like a seasoned pollmaker and had an original idea.
Everyone here, besides the champions will be happy to give you advice for your future suggestions if we can.

Thank you, Pencho15
The word 'seasoned' is apt for me ;-)
I'm sure I'll need everyone's advice and guidance.

Nighthawk
Thanks for the reply. As you can see I'm new to this. Happy to take advice / suggestions.
This movie certainly is 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', which every other version is compared against. I also wonder how in 1939 they felt about that last line, when Holmes turns back and says "Oh Watson, the needle."
Best,
Nighthawk
