A follow-up list to my previous poll suggestion (best rom-coms of the 1990's). This new list has 35 feature films that fall under the genres of "romance" and "comedy":

The problem with the "fall under romance and comedy" category is that the movie, for all the relevance of these genre tags, can be a romance AND a comedy, but without falling under the rom-com category.

I like the American Film Institute's definition: AFI defines "romantic comedy" as a genre in which the development of a romance leads to comic situations.

"Forrest Gump" is one of my all-time favorite movies but I can't see it as a rom-com, first, it's a drama with many comedic elements, but the romance is one of the aspects of the story that are handled the most seriously and it never leads to comic situations when you think about it (rejections, fights, drugs, AIDS etc.) Can we really call a rom-com a romance ending on a graveyard with one of the most emotional and tear-jerking speeches ever?
