My favorite is Her (2013) then About Time (2013).
Fact: both released in 2013

This is one I don't mind watching every so often.
The Adjustment Bureau

I know the Bureau is a favorite for many people. I love the leading actors both and they played OK, but the screenplay killed me totally away - it's a kind of long-lasting trick over viewers. I had a similar (but worse) experience when watching Now You See Me 2 (2016). It's hard for me to accept why people love the latter one, but I understand the reasons for The Adjustment Bureau.

MAthePA,

Nice list. My favorite science-fiction romance in the films you've listed is WALL·E (2008).

FYC: Tuck Everlasting and 2:22 (I believe it's called that - it's from a year or so ago.)
They might be more fantasy, though.

Thank you, MAthePA.  This the 2:22 I'm talking about.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1131724/

Tuck Everlasting is more fantasy-ish, but might be considered sci-fi.  I mean, there's no spaceships or robots, but the actual roots of the "unexplained" element is left open.  So it could be sci-fi?  :)

I prefer to stay conservative in the genre questions when preparing a poll. When a genre is questionable, I need to watch the movie or rely on the experience of other people who did it. You say the movie is more on fantasy side and sci-fi could be there. OK, I believe you and your experience, that is why I don't include for now but going to watch it anyway ))) and may be then we decide together for sure.

As I understand, in its sci-fi-ness this movie may be similar to About Time and The Time Traveler's Wife - those are fantasy movies. I consider it is not sci-fi when a man goes time-travelling after just thinking about it, or as result of genes(!) mutation, or something like that. Fantasy, not science fiction. But, again, the latter two movies are included in the list to be conservative, because they are marked as sci-fi already, and are romance for sure. Let people firstly solve the problem between two genres globally.

Tuck Everlasting (2002) is fantasy, a fairy-tail approach.
A vast part of movies marked both as fantasy and sci-fi at the same time are just the fantasy genre movies including some elements of science fiction, and the latter is not enough to mark them as sci-fi by genre. When watching the Tuck Everlasting, I find not any element of science fiction there.

Interesting idea for a poll. Haven't seen all of those, but of what I've seen my vote will probably go to Starman (1984), because it is one of my all-time favorite movies.

I really need to binge Shane Carruth directorial works at some point. He seems right down my alley: an uncompromising filmmaker who knows he's best at low budgets and keeps it that way to have his artistry in check.

Starman's one of my fave's too. K-Pax is right there in the cerebral style sci fi. Also the first "Tron" Movie too if your a Bridges fan.
Watching Stargate right now! Roland Emerich!!! Can't wait for the new one...

Indeed, social drama needs not much money in production, but then it should be a masterpiece to revenue up and out from the viewers' hearts, not only critics. As we see, Shane Carruth is not wasting powder and shot, that results in 9x and more surplus. But the gross earning is the same level for both projects, while the expense has raised extremely. So he needs to be involved in big commercial projects to survive and develop as a cinematographer, I think.

The above mentioned TRON (1982) sounds as a suggestion here, that's why I try to explain why it is not initially in the list, as well as The Hunger Games+ and Divergent+.
We see the protagonists having romantic relationships there; and in fact, any elements of romance, such as words "I love u", hugs in same context, kissing, making love, and so on, they are in wide use to dramatize stories of all genres.

This poll invites to vote for romance as the heart, the nature, a developing force of a story. For example, on quantity basis there is not so much elements of romance in The Time Machine (2002), but the story is an anthem to romance. The protagonist sacrifices all his comfortable and honorable life, endangering his existence to keep the romance of his life. One more example is WALL·E (2008) - I don't know another movie that might better describe a romance between androids. I may presuppose the only reason why WALL·E is not marked as romance by genre: people used to see romance between people only, for thousands of years. But this poll is for "sci-fi answer on what romance is".

Well, since there is no suggestions for "Back to the Future", now I add the Part 3 in the list. IMHO, the romance between Dr. Emmett Brown and Clara Clayton is a self-explained, closer to this poll idea and the most heart-warming in the trilogy.

Sure, I remember. It's all the time-travel paradox, a chicken and egg issue, you know... If was not so, I'd explain more to the above Tron issue.

Tron was a comment that related to Bridges, not a suggestion for the poll.

Thank you, sincerely, for the first Tron memento. I still can read and have understood it was not a suggestion. It was good here to make me printed the long text (opinion) out, that I hope could help to emphasis the main idea. If people consider Terminator is not a part of Tron+The Hunger Games+Divergent issue, it is added - no problem. Because of the specific story lines (a chicken and egg issue), I see no opportunity to be persuasive against romance as a developing force of the Terminator story.

PS: Ed, check reports please - there is only one "like" for now near "Tron was not a suggestion. Sorry about that.", and it is mine.

Ed Jones (XLIX) and NarniaisAwesome, thank you.

I always understand that the first day is not final for voting, but am a little shocked with the results. There I see the first place is long-going to stay for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2nd is WALL·E, and 3d's Terminator (the last one is why I comment to you with this). Well... further it's not a critics, just a wonder.

It seems people vote for their favorite movies more than for the questions asked. Eternal Sunshine as a movie is one the highest rating in my own scale (there are 166 movies out of more than 4400 voted for now, WALL·E is also there), but I can not understand it to be the leader in this poll... Really.

In all aspects, the most matching are (no ranking): HerUpside DownPerfect SenseMr. NobodyWALL·E2046The Time Machine. They are the heart and the developing force of their stories, as well as naturally romance (not simply romantic).

From the point of a romance between people, the current result tells us that romance is something that has to be erased from memory and replaced by a last-minute affair with a bodyguard. OK, in view of this I much more prefer to vote for romances between androids - they are true romances, at least.

The more people take the simplified love-like-Terminator-stories as a true romance, the closer is the moment when two wrangling persons will end on hard following:
- Romance you!
- Romance off!!!

We have no opportunity to share the vision "When It Was" with people born 1990 and later, when new age for sci-fi begun. As for me, I don't even try to do so. Vise-versa, I prefer to rate what I see now comparing to other similar when enjoying cinema. And I also love to visit virtual museums of cinema. But most of all I love to recognize a museum piece to be the living masterpiece of cinema )))

I always look at any movie and rate it as if it were the year it was made.
Casablanca is a 6.5-7.0 movie by today's standards. Fortunately, most think as I do and rate the way I do.
8.5/10

My rank is 10/10

I'm sure the approach is a deterrent to progress, it's a way to nowhere. Then why should somebody use more attractive ways for the same or improved ideas to live? Neah, no progress, no improvement, a museum of museum arts.

I'm pleasantly surprised that The Terminator (1984) is at the third place right now. That movie is many things so it's nice to see that people started to appreciate it for things that were mostly overlooked over the years: horror, noir and romance aspects included.
