Whether it's a dense jungle, a snowy mountain, a deserted Island or an open sea, in these movies they all have to fight against nature to survive. Which survival in the wilderness movie is the best?

My list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls025484025/

Hoekkie,

My vote:
Cast Away (2000)

Are you limiting your poll to humans surviving in the wilderness? If not, for your consideration:
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Three pets (Chance, a young dog unfamiliar with the world; Shadow, an aging, wise dog; and Sassy, a snobby cat) are left behind when their family goes on vacation. Unsure of what happened, the animals set out on a quest to find their family. This journey across America is very dangerous and the animals risk never seeing their masters again. The group of pets travel across forested mountains and areas of wide-open countryside, while their family searches for them in the same areas.

Thanks for the vote. Yes, only human surviving movies. And no science fiction.

"Only human surviving movies"?!? Dam, "Eight Below", and "Antarctica" would have fitted beautifully here but they are about abandoned dogs in the Antarctica.

The first one sounds like the name of a porn movie but let me assure you that it is not.

It seems to me that this is not a ‘fight against nature’ movie. I read it’s about a fight against a tribe.

- Lifeboat
- The Adventures Of Sadie(1953)
Choosing the two highest raking FEATURE FILM adaptions of this story: Robinson Crusoe (1954) and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, a Sailor from York (1982).

Alpha (2018) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4244998/?... looks like it is going to be a good one two. But it comes out next year in March. Damn , Damn, DAMN!!!!! I want to see it NOW!

While not exactly a survival story, any attempt to climb this mountain, the world most dangerous mountain to climb, becomes a survival story, K2
Ever taken a trip down a dangerous river?
- The African Queen

Thanks for the suggestions, but I think in all these movies it's more a fight against other people and not against nature.

Hoekkie, How is mountain climbing can be against people when those people have to fight against both the ground, the weather, and the thin air? As I said, the climb is a survival story. Also before Cruise has to learn how to survive on his own before Friday ever comes along.

Thanks!! In my opinion Jaws doesn’t fit in this list. It’s not really a survival movie. They are more trying to take down the danger.

Leaving out The Impossible makes sense since they were in a tourist resort.

I gave it a second thought and I added Lord of the Flies. For the other movies see below:

The Impossible
It's a disaster movie, and don't take place in wilderness
Swiss Army Man
Science fiction is excluded, this one is close to science fiction I think and not  to compare with all other movies on the list
Rabbit-Proof Fence
It's more a escape/flee movie. A fight against the camp they are in and the pursuers.
127 Hours
He's stuck, that's why he can't go home. He have to find a way to survive, not a challenge against nature.
Black Robe
Surviving the wilderness isn't the main theme of the movie. Besides they are guided by indians.
Frozen (2010)
It's not really the wilderness because they are in a chairlift.
The Old Man and the Sea
It's a fishing story, so surviving isn't the main theme.
Dead Calm
It's a thriller about a stranger. Not a fight against nature.
Island of the Blue Dolphins
Only 360 votes. Wouldn't get any votes in the poll I guess.
The Mosquito Coast
Not really a survival movie. It's his meaning to build a society.
Tracks
It's about a journey, not about surviving.

I appreciate all your suggestions and as you know I added 5 of them. I explained all my considerations. I don’t feel comfort in explaining another thing. It would be nice to get a respond to the 5 movies I did add or to all my considerations I explained. Or, why do you think I should have add those movies? I hope you know what I’m trying to say. English isn’t my first language:)

Thanks! I really hope this will be a homepage poll. There are a lot of good movies on the list and it's topical with the recent releases of The Mountain Between Us (2017) and Jungle (2017).

It's a bit of a spoiler to say how a film ends, but even if it ends badly the fight for survival is still part of the story.

Voted for Into the Wild.

P.S. 'fight for survival' in the poll name would make it a bit more clear.

Man In The Wilderness starring Richard Harris should be in the poll. It's the same story that The Revenant is based on but it was made in the 70's and also stars John Huston as the man who leaves the main character to die. It's the movie that would get my vote.

Firstly. Adrift is not a Survival movie. I think I saw another in list where all the important characters die. As surviving is the the very definition of a survival movie it might be an idea to look at that part. :)

Secondly. You might want to break this list down to true story and fiction. It's just too big a gap between reality and studio story survival.

I disagree. It is very much a survival story. It is that the sea is such a radically different environment than a traditional survival story setting. The trouble with “Adrift” is that it is also a ghost story for not only the ghost ship that passes them by, but for the fact that one of the two people on the boat wasn’t there. I take it from your post that you haven’t seen the film yet.
