Even big time directors can have that one movie that looks like it should kill at the box office, but for some reason the public just does not cozy up to it. Most of these movies are actually good, they just aren't the directors best. What we do know is that the movies in this poll just barely missed the mark, or flat out lost site of that mark altogether.

Which good/not so good movie do you find to be the biggest "Oops" on this list?

Ed Jones (XLIX), as much as can't hate Batman & Robin (1997) in general, John Glover is the best part of this movie in my book.

Some to consider:  :)

Captain Eo (1987) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Short film made for an attraction at Epcot, I believe, terrible cheesefest.

The Phantom Menace, directed by George Lucas.
It's pretty widely considered the worst Star Wars movie yet.

The first Star Wars dialog was cheesy
The only thing that makes the movie was the special effects.
The Phantom Menace only gets picked on because of the Love/Hate for Jar Jar.
I Love Phantom!!!!! and Me ista be thinkin on a Jar Jar liken most a lot.

NarniaisAwesome as someone whose passion for filmmaking was partially ignited by behind-the-scenes of The Phantom Menace I's like to tell all those wide people to just move one, already, it's been 20 years and movie has enough of redeeming factors to leave it alone.

Ed:  Really?  I coulda sworn you said once you hated it!  :O

Nikolay:  Not being a Star Wars fan, it's hard for me to see redemption in Phantom Menace.  :)  But I do agree that people can spend too much time hating on a movie when there's bigger, badder things to hate... like Batman and Robin... :)

NarniaisAwesome, the funniest part is that I like Batman & Robin (1997), as well, although I can easily admit it's way, way more flawed then Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). Both are very far from the worst movies I've seen, anyway.

Yes, they are not the worst movies ever... I've seen those.  :)  I have a weird passion and love for terrible movies, probably fueled by my love for Mystery Science Theater and RiffTrax.  You wanna see the weirdest movie ever, that will make you question all reality and wonder who you are?  Watch Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny.  :)

Don't forget the worst movie from these best directors is still a decent number votes wise. You get 55,000 people to give you a 4.9 average. While that's not good that it was 4.9, It is 55,000 people telling you, we will still love you even though your movie kinda sucked.

Hell no!! It was glorious. You were far more articulate and backed up with far more data than I ever could. That's why persons get annoyed with me, as I keep my replies more to the point because I use one finger (One finger/ping only Vasily) typing. Just had to throw in a Red October reference! LOL Couldn't resist. Yeah one finger! I use the other to pick my nose! Kidding! I just use my left finger for the "a" key or "Shift" key. So I type SLOW!

I type double slow, because I use both pointer fingers for writing
So I have to change the hands when picking the nose. :D

Nikolay,
Haha!  I assume by those three you're speaking of,
Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny (1972)
Santa Claus (1959)
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964)
:D

I guess because Santa is a "public domain" character, like King Arthur.  There's lots of terrible movies about him, too.  :)

Ed and Breu,
See what the mere mention of the Ice Cream Bunny has done!  Somehow gotten us speaking of nose picking!  The Ice Cream Bunny is working his strange and evil ways!  No one is safe!  :D

NarniaisAwesome, yeah, exactly these three! Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny seems to be the least known of the three, likely because it was not featured on MST3K, although it was on spiritual successor, Rifftraxx... Wow, talk about unsuccesful directorial debut... Although it's possible it was an Alan Smithee situation. :)

LOL!  The RiffTrax is really great, if you haven't seen it.  The movie is so insane.  The Producer, Barry Mahon, also previously made The Wonderful Land of Oz, which was also a RiffTrax.  It's just as bad.  :)

Since the general agreement is that these movie "sucked", maybe it would be an interesting twist to ask which one has aged better than what its initial reception might have predicted, some aren't so bad after all and are more cult material than others... I think it's better to ask the question positively, because the assumption in your question is that these movies are bad while they just flopped (some because they're bad OK) and the poll could be an interesting occasion to have a second look at these so-called duds, what do you think?

Big Time Directors: Their One Oops!

Even big time directors can have that one movie that looks like it should kill at the box office but for some reason the public just rejects it. Sometimes the chemistry between the stars causes the movie to fail. Sometimes the director himself is to blame. Editing. Miscasting. Most of these movies are actually good, they just aren't the directors best. What we do know is that the movies in this poll just barely missed the mark or flat out lost site of that mark altogether.

Which good or not so good movie do you find to be the "Oops" on this list?

1-5 have the best selections....I think!
Have I organized the best top 5?
Not expecting it to be put where we have discussed Dan, nor do I believe it is a proper poll for placement, but am I on the correct path in design?

Any Recommendations?
Thanks
