I also find this poll insensitive and lacking any redeeming value. IMDb frowns upon making social commentary in reviews and the polls should be no different. And it is a little presumptuous to say "we all here at IMDB", as you certainly do not speak for IMDb Bonefide!

Peter, TBH, I just inherently assumed Boss here copied the message by IMDb itself, because I've seen messages like that from everyone. IMDb oddly had no statement on the issues lately and without that it's totally off to fabricate one, as far as I've re-checked. In my humble opinion it should've, but anyhow, it's not like black lives matter for a weekend and then tuesday.

Selina, not exactly a regular on this board, one might argue (several polls, but still, what makes a regular) but...
I live in Ukraine and I can't step aside when I see that. Nor anyone in the movie industry can. Every major and non-major studio issued a statement and there's a good reason behind that. You know what's malarky (genuinely thanks for enriching my vocabulary with this word, was not even aware of it somehow)? The fact that the less you research the easier it is to believe you're right. When no one is in this world. Something I will preach for the rest of my days - doubt yourself. Doubt your every thought, your every action, your every belief, otherwise they're worthless. Mainly because consensus will be impossible and consensus between us is why we're still there. We're our most right when we doubt that we are. We have the best consensus when we admit that we disagree, but still agree on something.
Protesters and rioters are the same thing? Yeah, sure, why not. Riots started over a single murder when dozens die every day. Of course [blatant and very bleeeding, depressive sarcasm]. Then why on Earth I felt ashamed for being white when I saw countless videos of white looters being central marauder figures and why on Earth I saw just as many videos of protesters risking being beaten by police (and beaten, with little consideration) to hand them over those who really incite violence and looting?
And, I'm sure you have an answer for that. Ed has one, too. Everyone here has some kind of answer to that, be it positive, negative, neutral, agreeing, disagreeing. Angry, approving, disapproving, whatever. But please, for one minute or less, regardless of what it is, doubt it. Give my chronicly fatigued, depressed and disheartened 2020 self at least that. Because if 2020 is anything it's us not doubting we have a future before that point. And look at us now. Look at this wreck of a planet, making yet another circle and tell me you're okay with our place on it. Because I'm not. I feel like we all, as a life form, freaking deserve the apocalypse right now even if all common sense in me tells me I'm just too sad too be as usually optimistic as I am.
And you know, it hurts. A lot. More then usual.
P.S. As you can tell, I'm not okay right now, but I'm kind of proud for this commentary and I have a feeling I will stay proud of it when I will be a tad more okay. My self-asteem in general is a few deep wells low, but I can give myself that.

Speaking for myself, for what it's worth...
I refuse to be labeled as a member of any community... I know communities exist but the meaning has been distorted in the way they are used to reduce people with all their differences into "standards"... being white or black or gay or trans or muslim or jew etc. I refuse to be put into a section arbitrarily chosen by institutions that decide which parameter is more relevant than another...
Okay I admit that ethnicity can be relevant or religion or sexuality or political views but how about wealth? How about social status? How about attractiveness? How about personality? How about spoken languages? How about passions? How about fashion? How about all other factors that might make us closer to people even with a different ethnicity or sexuality... aren't we here all because we share the same passion for movies? Have our ethnic backgrounds got any bearing on that?
Why should we accept the notion that just because two persons belong to the same so-called community then they should follow the same patterns of behavior, they should share the same political views as in a Pavlovian mechanism etc.
Thinking in terms of communities is the best way to divide people and reign over them and you know why?Because you can't victimize one side without vilifying the other... but once you reason in terms of human beings, not only you see the real tragedy but you also make it immune to any political exploitation.

I do, however, consider things like Black Lives Matter movement important, because we have foremost problems which are there for decades (sometimes centuries), without fixing which we're basically decorating a burning house with decorative plaques. And I mean, there is a lot of decorative elements to movements like that and community elements, but that's just how humanity thinks. Most of us cannot put abstract concepts in anything but tiny little boxes which are easier to understand and that's okay. Let's say we decide to fix these little problems, "box" by "box".
1. First, who makes the segmentation? Should it be a collective consensus? Should facts guide the judgment? Should we trust politicians? the people? the media? common sense? And how about my free will? Suppose there's an issue that includes me (against my will) in a category whose interests apparently interfere with another one, should I accept (against my will) that I'm a de facto oppressor because I belong to a category that oppresses or oppressed another or should I accept (against my will again) that I'm a victim because etc. is it as simple as that?
2. Secondly, how do you know the box you can put a problem or an issue in? Are these boxes separated, hermetically sealed or do they overlap? Is it a racism issue? or is it about alcoholism? violence? poverty? entertainment media? You can't put big problems into little boxes just like your eyes can't focus on two points at the same time, you've got to look at the big picture... like Doc says "Marty, you've got to reason in four dimensions"
3. Finally, who decides which box is the priority? You can't hierarchize the boxes, that would be racism if each box is about an ethnic issue, but it all goes all the same if you hierarchize their timely or emotional or personal values. At the end, we've got little boxes that we have to fix in the same time not to be accused of hypocrisy (like where were you or did you care when *that* happened?)
I know there are human groups, I'm not toying with concepts to sound smart, your argument made me think a lot and comforted me in my position that this "box" mentality is problematic, because:
1. it divides the majority of people into three negative categories: victims / oppressors / hypocrites
2. it dumbs down the representation of reality through exaggeration and/or over-simplification
3. it doesn't solve the big problem but generates dozens of collateral ones.
