I would vote for Sam Rockwell.
But I believe you should add Dwayne Johnson to the list.

I have a feeling that Ryan Gosling, with his melancholy, his loneliness, silence and this stare that appears to be meaningful and blank at the same time, will represent our decade for future generations.

Is work in Drive and Blue Valentine consolidated him

Is work in Drive and Blue Valentine consolidated him.
He also is funny, it makes him very reliable to do comedy roles such as Crazy, Stupid, Love and the Nice Guys.
In Drive and Blade Runner 2049, with is silence presence and in both movies we can see clearly that he is trying to found love on his loneliness life.
Blue Valentine for me his is best performance, my favorite also. Powerfull performance.
La La Land it as good also, gave him multiple nominations but I don't think it was is best.

Yes, there is the Crazy Stupid Love (etc.) Gosling and the Drive Gosling whom we can also see in Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines, Only God Forgives, and Blade Runner 2049. He is fine in both kinds of roles but I think (hope) the latter ones will be better remembered.
Maybe he's a bit like Bogart, who like Gosling was a star in his time but not the most popular one. I think he wasn't romantic and handsome enough. But in retrospect, his characteristics appear more positive and relevant, he's the cool and detached guy who defines the 40s.

Him, Tom Hardy and Jake Gyllenhaal are the actors we can say have consolidated in this decade. Probably they gonna win something on the next decade but this is the decade we can say that defined them.
P.s: and yeah I forgot "the place beyond the pines" such an underrated movie.

Hi Kyle, why no women in any of the polls? I can understand separating them if the reason is the fact that women get less than a third of spoken lines (although certainly there are women such as Streep, Roberts, Bullock, Winslet, Davis, and Adams who break that glass ceiling) but, if that's the reason, I'd briefly note it in the intro. Then, if you'd rather not do lists of women actors, someone should. If no one else wants to, I will. Thanks.

There were already several Decade Defining Women polls, by albstein (on his deleted accounts).

Oops. Sorry, Kyle. I've been sick lately and meningitis makes one stupid, lol. Seriously, though, cognition, including memory, takes a while to get back on track. I'd suggest linking to the actress polls, though. There's no one link to all of them but here's the link to the 90s: https://www.imdb.com/poll/MVgb9Pcww-4/
(That's the last one I could find.)

Yeah, as Peter said, Alb had tackled the women polls because we thought it best to avoid leaving people out if combined into one. And oy! I'm so sorry Ruby - hopefully you're feeling better - my prayers are with you :)
I will look to link all of Alb's polls to my series - I'm out most of today but can definitely tackle that this week!
