Honestly, these directors all deal with isolation masterfully this is actually a tough one to pick. You always just hope that people don't pick their favorite director and actually think about the question for a second. For now, my vote would go to Charles Chaplin, Ingmar Bergman or Yasujirô Ozu.

Although I respect and admire both Chaplin and Bergman, I may prefer Ozu over them in terms of dealing with the sense of alienation.

Btw, which other works would you consider the best, by Bergman, regarding this subject? (So that I would watch those!)

I really like this idea and the list is great, too. 'Tough choice - a lot of good ones. I'd probably vote for my favorite, Kieslowski.

Glad that you picked Kieslowski! Even if I admire almost every director's work on the list, I tend to like his or Wong-Kar-Wai's work more often!

Talking about the one who handled it the best, I would also consider him as a strong contender considering his Three Colors Trilogy and The Double Life of Veronique (which really blew me away!)

Would like to know more suggestions from your side.

You know, I was thinking that I had suggestions in the back of my mind -- but they wouldn't cooperate and come to the front, lol, and, at the time, I didn't have time to go through my own "seen movies" list on my laptop to get ideas. After the next couple of days, I'll have more time and give a look. Yours is a great list, though, and, I would guess, includes all of the best at dealing with loneliness and isolation.

My vote goes to Wes Anderson
Really liked Grand Budapest Hotel from him.

I used to despise him at one time. But his works slowly started to grow on me. I loved Fantastic Mr Fox the most.

But while talking about this particular subject, I would prefer The Royal Tenenbaums over The Grand Budapest Hotel. It's not necessarily a better movie, but it holds a higher place in my heart, I guess!
