1.  No, never or only when they are shown in the movie theatre or on TV.
2. Yes, only when I want to find out if I want to see a particular movie.
3. Yes, only when I can’t wait to see the (unreleased) movie and I want to see a preview.
4.  Yes, I watch trailers for different or various reasons.

Would #6 mean that you are seeking out trailers? Like going online and just watching random trailers?

Hoekkie,

Yes, I watch trailers for a number of reasons:
1) I find it interesting to see how movie studios promoted classic films such as Casablanca.
2) Trailers can be a good screen to determine whether I should avoid a film. It is common practice to include the best scenes or deleted scenes in the trailer for a film or television episode. When these best scenes are awful, it is clear the film is fatally flawed, a film that I will likely avoid.
3) I am unable to see all the films I would like to see. Because of the IMDb polls, I frequently have key plot points for many films spoiled. I look upon watching spoilers for films I am unlikely to see as a way to become knowledgeable about those films.
4) A well-crafted commercial or trailer can be an art form in and of itself. I enjoy examining well crafted commercials.

I consider my perspective on trailers to be extremely atypical and do not recommend adding my perspective to your poll.

Thnaks for clarify that! That's really helpful. I like to know if and why people watch trailers. I don't watch trailers. When I see them in the movie theatre, I find them full of spoilers.
To bad to hear that some movies are spoiled for you because of the polls. Seems that you offer a lot for the polls.
I simplified the options in the poll.

I've simplified the options.

If possible, can someone change the description in this thread? Thanks.

It depends on the marketing style.

For instance, I've generally avoided trailers for The Last Jedi or WftPotA like the plague because they could be misleading or make the first viewing a less-new/exciting experience.

But stuff like Deadpool with pitch-perfect marketing that's not remotely spoiler-y I'll watch in a heartbeat.

For the most part it's No though.

I tend to base my willingness to watch a film on a) the synopsis and whether or not it sounds interesting, b) writers/directors/composers/etc... and c) critic reviews and friend recommendations
