Live Poll: Excuse My French Titles

When an English-language movie is released in France, the title can remains as it is or it can be translated into French.
But sometimes a title in English is "translated" in another title in English, but for the French audience.
Often the new title is close to original one, but it also may give some strange titles...
What the "ooh la la" they think they're doing?

Which title of this list is the weirdest for you, which one is your favorite?

Good idea.

Typo: "the title can remains as it is", should be "remain"

And ""translated" into another title in English" would be better.

FYC
I find the question confusing, as I have one answer for the weirdest and another one for my favorite. Which one should I reply with?

Which title of this list is the weirdest for you, which one is your favorite?

I think you're right.
It will be better to have only one question.

In my mind, as a French, it's weird to have a translation this way: a lot of people in France find this ridiculous. It should be better to stick with the original title or to find a real translation, like the French Canadians do.
I guess it's not necessarily the same reaction if you are native English speaker. You will may find some of these titles weird, funny, wrong or even possibly more relevante in some case.
So you can make a choice for a favorite title for different reasons (not only weird).

I'm changing the question for "Which title of this list is your favorite?".

I would suggest changes that are bit more specific in the title and question.
Here are some options, vary them to your liking or you can come up with your own.

Title Suggestions
Favorite Excuse My French Movie Title or Movie Titles That Scream, Excuse My French or another variation

Question suggestions
Which English-language movie title when renamed for French movie goers is the most curious re-branding?

Which English-language movie title when renamed for French movie goers is your favorite re-titling?

The question as it stands, I think asks me a content question, which movie do I like the most? and the poll title doesn't communicate whether it is about movies or is catchy enough to make me click the poll to take it.

I used a wordplay from the expression "excuse my French" and about the fact that most of the time the new title is a little awkward: the number of titles where the word sex is added, other titles that seem to be made by people who do not speak English (at least correctly), etc.

On other side, there are a number of existing imdb polls that have titles that are not obvious at glance and raise curiosity. I wanted to do it that way.
The description frame, below, is there to provide details.
If the title needs to be changed to give more details, I'm afraid it will become too long.

Maybe I should add "movie" to the poll title: "Excuse My French Movie Titles"?
Also the question could be: "Which one of this new English title "à la Française" is your favorite?"

Also, the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) maybe another answer option. It is re-branded as 'Millenium: Men who did not like women' for the french market.  In reality, both are based on the translated names of the novels in their respective countries. It turns out the American re-branding of novel is actually the source of the curiosity as the French translation is truer to the Danish original title.  Since, this a re-make rather than the original translated movie,The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) aka Män som hatar kvinnor(Men who hate women), I think it fits the scope of the poll suggestion.

But this suggestion is about titles that are actually in English, not in French, despite being used in France.

Yes, I believe the poll suggestion is about the English movies whose translated French titles don't match their original English movie titles.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) is an American-made English language movie. The other one, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) is a Swedish (not Danish) film that has a French title that is true to its original title.

One is a true translation and doesn't seem odd, the other is not a true translation (hence, the explanation) and does seem odd. I was just try to give full disclosure on the details and the story behind the translation.

SEEMS ODD
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) translated into 'Millenium: Men who did not like women' (2011) aka Millénium: Les hommes qui n'aimaient pas les femmes (2011)

DOESN'T SEEM ODD
Men who hate women (2009) aka Män som hatar kvinnor translated into 'Millenium: Men who did not like women' (2009) aka Millénium, le film - Les hommes qui n'aimaient pas les femmes (2009)

No, Peter is right.
It's about original title in English changed into another title still in English instead of being translated in French.

Thanks, for explaining it more fully.

Hi!
A few years ago I submitted a poll with the exact same subject. At this time I was told that this idea was neither good or original, so the poll was not published. Anyway, here are two lists with other ideas of English titles translated into other English titles if you want:

English titles translated into... English titles (part. 1) - https://www.imdb.com/list/ls079544298/
English titles translated into... English titles (part. 2) - https://www.imdb.com/list/ls079544854/

That's odd. Perhaps someone thought it was similar to other suggestions at the time?

Anyway, I think Pascal is the first to suggest it in this forum. If you wish, perhaps you could take your second list about "sexual" titles and post it as a new suggestion without overlapping too much.

I realized that my previous message was a little rough, sorry.
Maybe that there was a similar poll shortly before I submit mine, I did not visit the site every day and I probably miss some polls. In any case, that was three years ago and I had completely forgotten this event. If Pascal want to take some of my propositions, there is absolutely no problem. Maybe I will do something with the second part but since a few months I invest much less time on the IMDb and I'm not even sure to do an other poll.

It's OK Pictoris.
Usually before posting a suggestion, I check imdb live polls and posted suggestions, but not the lists. They are so many... and they are not necessarly  poll suggestions.

Thank you for the proposal, maybe I will swap a couple of titles, there are some, of your list, which I had not thought and which could be interesting to include.

I hope you will post a suggestion for the second part someday.

This is a great poll. There are so many funny titles, like 'Be Bad,' lol. My favorite title, though, is 'Happiness Therapy.'

I'm guessing you mean
What the "ooh la la" do they think they're doing?

I love the "ooh la la," by the way. 'All-around funny, well done poll.

I used "Sacrebleu" in a 'similar' poll

http://www.imdb.com/poll/WwHC_NpVtvA/

... not to say the two polls are exactly the same (I get the OP's point) but maybe some inclusions in this poll can work for his.

Thank you rubyfruit76.
Correction done.

Yes Sdk ElMaruecan.
It's the same spirit but focusing only on the titles translated into another title in english.
Your list highlights translations in French not literal but cleverly done.
The list I propose highlights translation in "Frenglish" weirdly done, a sort of English adapted to some of the French who do not speak English fluently.

Good list, and I really like the title. :)

You have some typos:

Which one of these new English titles "à la Française" is your favorite?

#15: 'Sex intentions', and #28: 'Baby-sitter'.

Thanks Jessica !
Typos in list description corrected.

Regarding the two movie titles, they are not typos, alas: /
I only copied/pasted the localized "imdb display title".
"Sexe intentions" is an example of Frenglish: syntax in English, 1 word in French, 1 word in common with both languages and, finally, a random pronunciation.
"Baby-sittor" is a kind of wordplay in reference to "Terminator" and "Predator"; these both titles have been Frenchalized too, removing the "The".

I've told you so, these translations are weird! (may be false, misinterpretation, and so on) ;)
