In a state dominated by the Democratic party and Hollywood, two former actors, Ronald Reagan (1967-1975) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (2003-2011) turned politicians have been elected Governors of California on the Republican Ticket. Which of the two men's life stories do you find most inspiring (or conversely whose life would make a better bio-pic)?

I have always had a weakness for Arnold Schwarzenegger! - and besides his awareness of global warming and climate changes makes me like him even more!

If done well, it'd be interesting to see how Reagan changed from a Democratic Union guy to the person who would take the country on sharp right turn that would last decades.
'Good idea for a face-off, by the way.
May I suggest a few small edits to the intro?

(The first is just a comma after the parenthesis. I'd delete "conversely" because it's not necessarily conversely.)

Schwarzenegger for me. His father was a local police chief, and a veteran of the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943). Arnold had a particularly poor relationship with his dad, who considered him inferior to his older brother. Arnold pretty much chose bodybuilding as a way to build a career. He emigrated to the United States by 1968, with barely a knowledge of the English language, and eventually became the "most famous immigrant in America".
Reagan is not exactly an inspiring story. His political career is particularly known for:
*Fired 11,345 striking air traffic controllers, after promising to support their union's demands during the 1980 presidential election.
*He "cut the budgets of non-military programs including Meduicaid, food stamps, federal education programs, and the EPA ... "his administration attempted to purge many people with disabilities from the Social Security disability rolls."
*His financial policies contributed to the lengthy "Savings and loan crisis" (1986-1995) and the "Black Monday" stock market crash (1987).
*The national debt of the United States sky-rocketed, because Reagan's government "borrowed heavily both domestically and abroad". The debt increased from 997 billion dollars to 2.85 trillion dollars.
*Reagan vetoed the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, though his veto was overrode by Congress. He befame the first President since Andrew Johnson to veto civil rights-related legislation.
*The Iran-Contra Affair, when Reagan admininstration officials sold weaponry to Iran and used the funds to finance the Contras, a terrorist group in Nicaragua. "The scandal resulted in fourteen indictments within Reagan's staff, and eleven convictions."
The "Teflon President" had one of the worst administrations in American history. Even Warren Gamaliel Harding was involved in less scandals and financial mismanagement.
