I haven't seen the adaptation yet (from which Crichton was effectively fired as a screenwriter because it departed too much from the novel: something you would rarely expect from a writer of source material) but my favorite book by Crichton is The Terminal Man. Closer to horror or thriller then his usual sci-fi endeavours, it is still as thought-proovking as you would expect, even after 40+ years.

I liked the Yul Brenner Version.

The Original has not worn well over time. Its definitely dated. Its like Star Trek. The next Generation is better than the original series.

The idea of TNG better than TOS... Wow... We ordinarily try to avoid expressing stuff like that around here. The prospect of fan wars is nauseating. I'd agree, however, that TNG has a much higher production value than TOS, just as the Westworld series has a much higher production value than the Westworld movie. (By the way, I understand that nobody is trying to dis the old stuff, but some observers might not understand.)

You could list Westworld as two different options since they are different adaptations.

And should you really list the last three Jurassic movies when he didn't write them?

I don't add Westworld (1973) to the list because he was the one that actually write the series, so we don't call it as adaptation. The newest Westworld however is adaptation from Crichton original. Looks to me, many people here are fan of the original thats why I added it in the newest Westworld.

Jurassic World (2015) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) are adapted from adaptation from his original Jurassic Park (1993) (he wrote the novel also the script), so I think its qualify.

It's a good poll, don't get me wrong, but why is that the work he's probably best known for and certainly the most commercially successful doesn't belong to the homepage lineup... not to mention how iconic the poster is.

I don't know how they work, but looks like it was generated based on the first 4 option on the list. I made the list from the oldest, that's why like Jurasic Park didn't have the place.

Silitonga,

I agree with Peter, that the images look good.

The IMDb Home Page uses the first five images from a list.

Peter, I didn't say the images don't look good. Let's not interpret my words the wrong way.

I only meant that since the poll is a tribute To Crichton, it would have been cooler to have his most iconic contribution in the opening lineup as if it was a book or an article cover. That's why chronology isn't always the right order for homage-lists... I dont think one would use it for Hitchcock for instance.

Thats all, still a cool poll but my comment had nothing to do with aesthetics... let's be clear about that.

I'm sorry, Silitonga, for me you were a regular, I didn't mean to sound abrupt.

I didn't know you weren't familiar with the selection ways, maybe I'm not either because I've always thought that chances for the homepage were increased when the five pictures looked good. I guess it was about images and cropping issues, your poll features posters and they're all stylistically pleasing, but here's why I personally believe chronological order should be avoided.

1/ if a poll is meant as a tribute, it makes sense to have the most memorable work in the opening-five, since it works as a 'teaser' for the poll. You see the "E.T", "Jaws" or "Raiders" posters, you know it's a Spielberg poll. Not to mention that many directors began with lesser known movies...

2/ it's more attractive, and I mean for the votes... you can have voters who're only familiar with his 'Jurassic Park' movies, then the current line-up can be misleading because those who only know the JP movies without knowing the author might not suspect the poll is actually about him. I was curious enough to check the rest of the list because I'm not familiar with any of the Top 5, but some wouldn't be as curious.

3/ practical reason, at the end of the votes, there's no chronological order anymore, so it's not a necessity.

Of course, if all options are equally popular, chronology isn't an issue, but I disagree with the argument that says that you have to push the lesser known options because otherwise, voters will vote only for the most popular. I think voters vote for their favorite and it happens to be the most popular because it has the most fans, but any fan of that "obscure" or "less known" movie will instantly vote for it.

Voila.... and congrats for the selection!

Wow... I feel stupid now lol... you know, that's the problem when you read the page from the Iphone, for some reason, Peter's answer was right under mine and now yeah, I just see the whole thing, so I figured my comment was taken as a criticism against the choices of image.

Sorry Peter

Maybe we have a different opinion about how make a list as an attribute to a person. For me chronology is important to show the person achievement from time to time, by time standard.

But, its maybe just me, I don't know...

I think time is as random as popularity if you're looking for a specific parameter. Of course, it's a "blind" and "neutral" one so it's fine if that's what you're looking for but it's not that irrelevant to start something with the most 'appealing' elements, if the poll was about Tarantino, the better stuff would be the older.

But I was only thinking about the "homepage", that's the key of my reasoning. Indeed, unless I'm wrong but the guidelines insist on having cool-looking or instantly identifiable (or relevant, I dont know) images at the beginning... to play like a sort of "teaser" or a book cover, imagine if I want to make a poll about Hitchcock, I can't picture the list starting with his 1927 or 1928 movies... no matter how good they are. You go to the "iconic" ones, it might be obvious but I don't think it affects the polls at all.

That's it, it's all in the way it looks in the homepage, personally, I do work for this eventuality, and I can understand if other users don't have this in mind, i'm perfectly okay with that but if someone else's poll get picked, I become attentive to the look of his poll on the homepage, that's why I allowed myself to give  advice and speak my mind.

But it's all up to you... as for Paul Newman's poll, don't pay attention to what I said, I hadn't read that post yet.
