The True Story Of The Niland Brothers Who Inspired ‘Saving Private Ryan’
Based on the article above, I think it would be a stretch to add Private James Ryan or Captain John H. Miller. The movie is fictional other than one detail, Frederick "Fritz" Niland got to go home because his brothers were all thought to be killed. The rest of movie doesn't correspond to real-life events and there is no corresponding group of soldiers who went searching for him led by a Captain John H. Miller or anyone else.

I would choose Oskar Schindler, but I know he will win this poll by a lot of advantage, so my vote will be for Tom Cruise how Claus Von Staufenberg

Who was Kurt Steiner (The Eagle Has Landed) based on?

I'm surprised you haven't included Bruno Ganz as Hitler.

I pulled it after re-examination. Added two portrayals from 'Downfall'

Bruno Ganz is the best.  'Downfall' is thee best portrayal of Hitler's final days.
