Separating the two genres can be extremely difficult as science fiction is often a good set-up for horror and horror an efficient subset for science fiction... and hence why many classic movies fall into the two categories.

Which of these classic Sci-fi/Horror movies is your favorite?

I'll vote for Alien- you know what I never understood why They Live is considered a 'horror' movie. It's more of an action thriller or some may even argue a documentary.

Scanners is another film I wouldn't call a 'horror' film. I mean yes someone's head explodes at the beginning but the rest is more of a thriller. I watched it with my mate at a horror screening and we weren't all that impressed and didn't find it scary in the slightest.

Horror usually has some grisly visual elements of macabre, gore, blood, burn, laceration, starvation, beast, darkness or the vast unknown, and musical scores to go along with it. Due to the true appearance of the adversary in They Live, it is a least borderline horror (like, say, Lord of the Rings), but I'd agree that it is more terrifying than horrifying, in terms of the overall vibe.

I mean it's more satirical than anything- its concept of a rebellion being able to discover the truth about the media's messages being controlled by aliens by putting on sunglasses. It's oddly truthful for such a science fiction premise.

I found eXistenZ to be disturbing but not horrifying. Interesting choice.
