Suggestions needed.
Just for kicks,
If these dialogue films we see nowadays were made in silent era,

Which one would've been most interesting to see?

The current list only implies that any kind of a suggestion is welcome. Every option on the list is open for debate. :D

Updated the description. :)

Just for kicks,
Imagine these films with old Chaplin emotional comedy situations, Buster Keaton stunts, horrific actions from Frankenstein or innovative storytelling like Metropolis.

Which one of these talkies would've been most interesting to see as a silent movie?

I want this one to feature as a "poll board suggestions" So any suggestion is welcome.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Doctor Zhivago

Lawrence of Arabia

2001: A Space Odyssey

Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo

Shichinin no samurai

This is the best one.

Turn the movie that was shot as a silent movie, then was re-shot as a talkie,
and turn it back into a silent film!

It would be interesting to see classic horror movies from the 70s and 80s remade as silent expressionist movies:

The Exorcist (1973) - If you can only choose one I think would like to see this the most.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Jaws (1975)
Halloween (1978)
Alien (1979)
The Thing (1982)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Urb,

I agree this is an interesting premise. I considered suggesting a similar poll, but didn't have it clear enough in my mind to make the suggestion. I believe that Thorin nicely captures the concept.

I will occasionally watch a familiar film with the sound turned off. This allows me to get a better sense of how actors physically interact, and the quality of the cinematography, special effects and other visual aspects.

I will also occasionally listen to a film soundtrack without viewing the film. This gives me a better sense of the interaction of dialogue, music, sound effects and sound edit.

The films that Ed suggests are very interesting to watch without sound. Likewise, the sound track for all of these films give a different perspective on these films.

Regardless, it is very instructive to focus on a single aspect of classic films, such as costuming or staging, to gain a better perspective of why these films are classics.

I do something likewise, "I will watch a familiar film with the sound turned off." I leave TV on with sound off, while working on something else, especially on movies I have seen before. It definitely highlights how effective all the other non-verbal aspects are in capturing your interest and telling the story.
