I still find it difficult to consider V For Vendetta a Superhero movie but it is one of my favorites. The first Avengers is another.

I didn't know whether Dredd was considered a superhero movie, either.  Kind of a grey area sometimes between comic-book movies, superhero ones or mere vigilantes, sci-fi, etc.

Gitte Løyche, original comic (I am annoyed when it gets called graphic novel: it was originally a serialized comic strip) by Alan Moore and David Lloyd specifically uses a lot of elements and tropes associated with genre and on-purpose. If you ask me, the scenario of a real-life figure like that being an anarchistic ex-concentration camp prisoner seems way more realistic than most superhero origins. Scenario of him being mentally unstable and, essentially, more powerful thanks to a disability (also portrayed in Darkman (1990) also hits way closer to home than superpowers being a "blessing".

IMDbmember, I can agree that Dredd (2012) is a borderline case, but character is always considered exceptional even by the standards of his own setting.

Unbreakable (2000) will always get my vote. Whole Shyamalan Eastrail trilogy is great, to be honest.
