If you had to make a compilation of your Top 10 favorite movie songs, that would include...?
(let's see who's gonna have the most voted soundtrack, just don't flood it with Disney songs unless you're a Disney fan, of course)
I'll start (in no order)
"Prince Ali" (Aladdin)
"Shout" (Animal House)
"Be My Baby" (Mean Streets)
"Suicide is Painless" (MASH)
"Mrs. Robinson" (The Graduate)
"To Sir, With Love" (To Sir, With Love)
"Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling" (High Noon)
"Blame Canada" (South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut)
"Every Sperm is Sacred" (Monty Python's Meaning of Life)
"Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will be Will be)" (The Man Who Knew Too Much)

One question, though: Do the songs just have to from "musicals," or can we pick anything in the soundtrack to a non-musical movie?

Since The Terminator (1991) video game (one of my all-time favorites) lacks music I often just play it to this soundtrack. Searching for Sara Connor in polygonal DOS LA to "Pictures of You" is just such a great activity.

I don't know if they are eligible, they weren't written for the movies but become more popular because of it.

I have ZERO idea how to not randomly do this one (just a shotgun list of 10 songs... I can recall that would fit this). I'll give it a ponder and hopefully make a half way decent list... that won't make me feel guilty for inevitably leaving out songs I really love but remember at a later (postpublication) date.

Mrs Robinson (The Wolf of Wall Street
Paint it Black (Full Metal Jacket)
Jungle Boogie (Pulp Fiction)
Society (Into the Wild)
Cat People (Inglorious Basterds)
Fortunate Son(Forrest Gump)
Where is my Mind(Fight Club)
Brian Song (Life of Brian)
Best of My Love(Boogie Nights)
Probably many of the songs are not original of these movies, in fact I did not know that Mrs Robinson had been written for The Graduate because I have not seen the movie but the use of these songs were so exact that they undoubtedly influenced my experience at the time of watching these movies.

I'm confused, do they have to be original songs written for a movie, or any song that sounds in any movie?

By the way, a couple of mine are on your list, too, ElMo. :)
In no particular order:
"Wise Up" by Aimee Mann (Magnolia)
"Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" by Urge Overkill (Pulp Fiction)
"Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley (Shrek)
"Live to Tell" by Madonna (At Close Range)

"To Sir with Love" by Lulu (To Sir with Love)
"Sounds of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel (The Graduate)
"These Are Days" by Natalie Merchant (Bringing Out the Dead)
I can get you an image to go with this if you like.

I got a few hundret songs in my head, that appeared in movies. For me it's an exhausting thing making out, which one I would choose to be better than the other. So I got ten candidates that came first to my mind:
Kenny Loggins: Footloose (Footloose)
AC/DC: Back in Black (Iron Man)
The Knack: My Sharona (Super 8)
Free: All Right Now (american Beauty)
Queen: We Will Rock You (Bohamian Rhapsody)
Queen: Who Want's to Live Forever (Highlander)
The Sweet: Ballroom Blitz (Hot Fuzz)
Huey
Lewis and the News: Power of Love (Back to the future)
Louis Armstrong: What A Wonderful World (Happy New Year)
Elvis Presley: It's Now or Never (The In-Laws)

But I would change two points about it.
I would change the Louis Armstrong pick to:
"Just an Illusion" from Imagination ('F/X', 1996)
and the Presley pick to:
"The Entertainer" from Scott Joplin ('The Sting' with Robert Redford)
(Even though it's not a song, it's an instrumental)

it would be the theme of 'Pink Panther' from Henry Mancini and
'A Shot in the Dark', also Mancini. I guess 7/10 of my prefered
instrumentals would be of Mancini's feather. ;)

For example, in one of the posts above, Jessica suggested Ecstasy of Gold, which does have operatic singing, but without actual lyrics.

1) Just a slight misspelling of my name in your list - it's mihailo.razvigor, not ravizgor
2) Can you put Mortal Kombat as my primary entry? No need to change the list itself (it's sorted chronologically), but I'm only referring to my placeholder, which is currently You Only Live Twice.
