It may sound cruel, but I've never cried watching a movie, although these movies have created strong feelings of sadness in me.

Cinephile, I just remembered 2 movies that made me very sad; Mystic River (if it's not too much trouble for you, I would like this movie to be in the first place), the other movie is 'One Flew Over The Cucko's Nest' and the two movies that will come out of my list will be 'The Godfather Part III' and 'A Bronx Tale'

NarniaisAwesome, what Stephen Atwood posted is actually a truncated version of Bambi Meets Godzilla (1969), perhaps one of the greatest short stories ever made. Gif spoils it a bit, but not the main part/joke of the movie.

Great idea!  I had one similar to it a while back, but having 5 to choose from is even better.  :)  Honestly, I don't cry at movies much; I don't know if it's because I rarely watch "sad" movies, or because I just need a really involving movie to get emotional.  I cry more at TV shows, probably because it feels more like a journey with the characters over many seasons.  Either way, here's the movies I remember seeing and crying at.  :)

1. Piglet's Big Movie
2. Christopher Robin
3. Return to Cranford
4. Frozen
5. Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Thanks.  :)  I guess since I probably hit 'Play All' on the disc, I forgot Cranford wasn't a movie.  ;)

When I look back, Loki's death made me jerk out a little tear. He's the brother of Thor, so he's a little like family of the Avengers.

1. There was a Father (1942)
2. Late Spring (1949)
3. Le vieil homme et l'enfant aka The Two of Us (1967)
4. The Remains of the Day (1993)
5. Dolls (2002)

Four of these are Japanese or have a relation to Japan. Coincidence?

Ed,

I have great sympathy for anyone suffering from coulrophobia, a persistent and irrational fear of clowns. Fear of clowns must make it difficult for you to watch these films. It's understandable that you would cry when watching.

I was traumatized at age 4 by a clown at a friends birthday party. Anytime I see a Clown it brings a tear to my eye....for a nano-second.  It's a "happy' cry. Seed of Chucky makes me cry because it was a really bad Part II. Part I Was Good! Well it was OK! I hope he realizes that they are not to be added!!

A friend of mine once told me long ago that when they were little, they saw a clown at a park and went to hide behind a bush.  ;)

Clowns don't traumatize me, but they are creepy, unnatural, and they never entertained me.  Luckily I've really never seen one in person, that I can remember.  :)

It's interesting how different traditions of clownsmanship are in the West and the East. In USSR and later Post-Soviet countries most clowns were very unlike buffonade-style clowns seen in the US and Europe, belonging to a more actor-like cover tradition of clowns.

For example Yuri Nikulin and Mikhail Shuydin, a prominent Soviet clown duo were both wearing little make-up similar to silent film actors and most of their scenes also revolved around gags which required a lot of acting, if some stunts and tricks as well.

Here is an example of one of their most famous scenes (in which both are "recruited" by a "film director"), as seen filmed for this short. Pretty sure it will be understandable with no translation whatsoever.

My Top 5: (chronological order)
The Professional (1981)
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)
Donnie Darko (2001)
Glass (2019)

I must admit, I did my best at narrowing it down to rather specific and important moments in my life when this movies reached to me in the best possible way and left lasting emotional impact, I guess... But the list might have been much different depending on the mood.

Inside Out (I) (2015)
Tokyo Godfathers (2003)
The Iron Giant (1999
Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
Your Name. (2016)

I've cried a deluge of tears at many a movie. Which is why I picked all animated features (so I didn't have to take 24 hours of straight research to get 1000 pages of movies ... making this a herculean task figuring out a single list of 5 films).

This is a tough one, I must admit it takes a lot for a movie to make me emotional but I think these impacted me the most on an emotional level.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
2. Toy Story 2 (1999)
3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
4: Blade Runner (1982)
5: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

I only remember crying in 4 movies:

1.- Toy Story 3
2.- Inside Out
3.- Coco (Damn Pixar)
4.- Juno

I also felt emotional at several times of Les Miserables (2012), so that can be my fifth option.

I have more than five, but if I have to narrow it down, it would be these:
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
The Battle of Kosovo (1989)
The Prince of Egypt (1998)
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Song of the Sea (2014)

Inside Out (2015) gets a special shout out, since it barely missed my Top 5.
