Poll Suggestion: IMDB Rating You Give the Most Often?

When it comes to rating movies and TV shows on IMDB, some people have a "You get a 10! You get a 10! EVERYBODY GETS A 10!" type of approach. However, not everyone can be as generous as Oprah, and those who are not so easy to please may rarely dish out anything above a 5. Which rating do you most often give to movies/TV shows on IMDB?

To find out, click on your profile name and look at 'Ratings Distribution' under 'Ratings Analysis' on the right-hand side.

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls029038036/

Mine is a 7 which accounts for 19% of my ratings.

Also, I'm not sure which of these titles sounds better, please advise (or suggest a new one):
  • IMDB Rating You Give the Most Often?
  • Your Most Commonly Given IMDB Rating?
  • IMDB Rating You Give Out the Most?
  • IMDB Rating You Dish Out the Most?

I always wondering what your standards of voting.

For me a
10 - it's reservated to my TOP 10 movies and Favorite TV-Series, Animation Series and Soap Opera
9 -  Excellent Movie
8&8.5 - Great Movie
7&7.5 - Good Movie
6&6.5 - Entertaining
5&5.5 - Reasonable

Movies that I think are 7.5, 8.5 ... I always give above note, not below (7.5 is an 8) (8.5 is an 9)
This is our standard here in my country.

*10&9 - are considered as an Excellent Movie but I divided in two parts.

I'm curious about yours standards?

...by the way great idea :)

I usually rate them mainly on enjoyability/entertainment value, if I am completely cured of ADHD during the period I'm watching the movie it gets a 10. I give 10s to a lot of campy movies/horror-comedies because humour is a good way to keep me interested. However, being a movie with an intelligent/creative story, a good score, and good cinematography are also important.  Those 3 things do of course fall under stuff that affects 'enjoyability', but if a movie bores me to death but does good on one or more of those things I'll give them a bonus point or 2.  The opposite can also be true where a movie was enjoyable but I can't give it a good rating because it fails in other ways- e.g.  Jeepers Creepers was entertaining but the characters were SO DUMB that despite enjoyability I just had to give it a 3 because I've never yelled so hard at a screen or felt such anger in my life.  Also, if a movie is a remake and copies the original word for word, obviously it's gonna be just as entertaining since it's essentially a copy, but I'll remove a point or 2 from what I gave the original to punish the remakers for being brainless hacks.

My ratings are also skewed to make me look less critical than I actually am, because until a couple days ago I only rated horror movies (my true love) in order to not have my recommendations contaminated with Disney movies, Top 250s, and the like- but now that I've started rating non-horror movies too I'm giving out a lot more 1-5s.

I agree with you in many points. A movie needs to be entertaining but also cinematographyc well made. It's 60/40 respectively, for me.
This is my standard of vote. Sometimes I watch a movie well made but not to much entertaining and vice-versa.

Everyone has his own standards of votes and sometimes similar to yours or extremely different. We are not critics, so we can gave the ratings that we want, without condicioning someone to watch a movie with our opinion.

By the way I don't like horror movies, for example and that influences my vote if a have to vote a horror movie.

And let me, correcting myself
* a 6 - is a reasonable movie
   a 5 - a watchable movie

Thus far, 100% of my ratings are ten out of ten, on a scale of one to ten. I just won't bother to rate anything that I don't consider to deserve such a score.

I give lots of 7's, 9's and 10's. To me a 7 is like an average 'good' movie and 9/10 is any movie I love.

10: 10%
9:   10%
8:   18%
7:   24%
6:   15%
5:   10%
4:    6%
3:    3%
2:    2%
1:    1%

This is skewed because I've learned, over the years, what directors and writers I respect, what filmmakers and distribution companies, etc., to avoid or to see, what theaters show more quality movies, etc. I see a lot of movies but don't see a lot of movies I'm unlikely to appreciate so I end up seeing more films that I consider to be good movies.

Sorry, this is already a poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/MHCgIeHHWrY/

I think we could still keep this thread for discussion, since the other poll doesn't have one.

You can also search for a topic on Google, since many polls were not suggested here on GS.

groovyvic,

I should have remembered that a similar poll went live.

There is generally no thread for most polls that went live before February 20, 2017.

This is the Google search to find live polls related to ratings:
site:imdb.com/poll rating
https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=Dfl_W9PiC8u-zwKaz4fQBQ&q=site%3Aimdb.com%2Fpoll+r...

In general, this would be the Google search term:
site:imdb.com/poll {term}

Where {term} is a keyword or phrase.
