Live Poll: Incorruptible Cops

Sometimes the cops tend to get corrupted, either because they find it more advantageous or because they find it useless to be on the other side.

The following characters were tempted to become corrupt but resisted because in their heads, the duty of the police is to enforce and respect the law and not to take advantage of the opportunity to circumvent the law.

Which character do you think reflects the essence of the expression "Incorruptible Cop"?

I like the number five, but I'll throw out some additional figures/characters for your consideration: Richie Roberts and Elliot Ness, although in the latter case, he was never depicted as being tempted by corruption or otherwise coaxed, plus in the depiction of great interest, he did commit murder within his tenure.

I shall note that Batman character Jim Gordon's lack-of-corruption level is debatable, since he is not supposed to be using the power of his office to aid or abet vigilantes (as he did in the Nolan series) no matter how vile the criminals defeated by those vigilante are, plus the television show Gotham has introduced additional twists and turns to his character, yet it might be fair to exclude televisions shows, since there are tons of popular cop shows.

I pick all the squad of "The Untouchables"
I didn't saw the movie but for the research it seems they all are incorruptible.

If not, tell me?

The untouchables all were incorruptible. With all the cops around they couldn't know, who of them is corrupted. So it was a conspired group of cops, trusting no one except them in the group. A very fine movie, you should really watch it! :D  It's got worthy story-telling, some suspension and a few high tensioned and some dramatic scenes. ;)  Cinema should be more often like this.

Sometimes it's available on the channels in my country, when it's available, I'll definitely watch it.
The plot looks like "Gangster Squad", hope it seems better because I didn't like too much  "Gangster Squad".

There's no comparison. 'Ganster Squad' was mediocre. 'The Untouchables' is a little more authentic and has a perfect 1930's atmosphere. The plot is thicker. The characters are polished, more faceted.

The characters must be attempted, if no, we will never not know if they are propensuos to be or not corrupt.

In Batman begins, Jim is one of the few cops that didn't let the corruption takes him, yes he must had help Batman to defeated the crime but in my opinion it's not being corrupted, the sense of the law still here.

In that case, you'll definitely want to consider Richie Roberts. He is so similar to Ed Exley, except he is real like Frank Serpico. If you've not seen the movie, then please see it.

Yeah i've saw the movie last year and now that you mentioned him, I remember that he was a honest cop and because of that the others cops hated him.
Great Suggestion. Added.

John McLane and Billy Costigan don't fit on the criteria.
I mean they are good cops but they never i've been on the situation or environment to be corrupt.
If you see these five characters you will see that they had this dilema of to be corrupt or not.
On case of Billy, he was a undercover... Which practically to be corrupt on his case, can let him in trouble if he decides to choose a gangster side.

The other two I don't know them but they must be on this criteria

It's a long time, I saw 'Die Hard' last time. But didn't Hans Gruber try to win/bribe John McClane? Guess you are right and I have to watch it again. ;)

I think you referenced the part when the cocky Elis offered to try to negotiate, not necessarily was Hans and he doesn't seem to open for this.
Hans was more interested in killing McClane because he screwed up his plans.

This list seems to be in part about non-corrupt police officers who are surrounded by corrupt police officers. John McClane was never depicted as surrounded by coworkers who were so starkly different from him.

So Marshall William T. O'Niel from  'Outland' really should be in. He is the most non corrupt police-officer I've seen on screen. All other cops around him are corrupted by his chief and the chief's 'friends'.

William T. O'Niel from 'Outland' sure is. Watch it, it's a space movie with Sean Connery. He stands alone ... in a space station, facing the evil.

I selected two of your four suggestions:
Freddy Heflin
Mike Vargas

I didn't see these movies but from the research i've done, they all look great. So it was a bit difficult to choose which one i would pick but i think these are the best ones.
Great Suggestions.

It's a long time ago I watchend the movie. Wasn't it, that Jack Mosley belonged to the corrupted, he turned good back again and fought through the plot? I wouldn't see him as incorruptable.

I don't know, Breumaster  i didn't saw the movie but anyway I didn't pick him.
But good to know this repairs.
If there is any choise that you think is a bit doubtful, tell me and we will clarify whether it is incorruptible or not.

Just remembered Sean Connery's character in The Untouchables. At the beginning of the movie he is still walking a beat because he refused to take part in all the corruption in Chicago. This is how Ness knew he could trust him.

So all the elements of the squad are "incorruptible"??
I didn't saw the movie so from the research i've done is what they tell. So I picked all of them instead of one.
I'm all right?

In The Untouchables, Jim Malone did lead a seemingly-warrantless raid against a distillery, though. Then again, he had plenty of probable cause and reasonable suspicion, from months perhaps years of being party to "common knowledge", plus the raid was very fruitful. I'd perhaps like to think there was already a warrant issued a long time ago that lawman ever bothered to execute.

I have included McQ, the others I researched them and it is not explicit if they are in a situation that they could be corrupted.

I found your text slightly confusing. Perhaps you could simply it a bit:

Sometimes cops tend to get corrupted, either because they find it more advantageous or because they find it useless to be on the other side.

The following characters were tempted to become corrupt but resisted because in their heads, the duty of the police is to enforce and respect the law and not to take advantage of the statute to circumvent the law.

Which character do you think reflects the essence of the expression "Incorruptible Cop"?

'Good poll! May I suggest a change of one word? A statute is a law or rule so that would mean that it would be legal for the police to engage in corruption. I'm thinking maybe the word "opportunity" is what you're looking for? I think it would it's the appropriate word so I'd suggest changing "statute" to "opportunity."

The following characters were tempted to become corrupt but resisted because in their heads, the duty of the police is to enforce and respect the law and not to take advantage of the statute to circumvent the law.

First I thought that he was only tough cop but after a research I realize that he implemented he's own sense of justice, with is Unorthodox methods.

He's incorruptible for that way, his rigid convictions makes him very unlikely to be corrupted.

Maybe I am wrong but is what I realized for the informations that I saw.
