I'm hoping for critique/suggestions for films, or even a discussion on what hard sci-fi is. It's kind of hard to define, but is pretty interesting regardless of what parameters are set.

I personally tend to use the terms SF for hard science fiction and Sci-Fi for less rigorous science fiction.
This search may be helpful. Unfortunately, IMDb conflates superhero films with hard SF.

I was actually thinking of excluding superhero films. I also excluded sci-fi horror and space operas, so the first three are out. I might be bending the term yet anyway, because the article calls for scientific accuracy, but I tend to read that as allegorical accuracy too. I'll be making many revisions anyway.

Well, not all hard sci-fi is necessarily mainstream, but if you look you'll find it. Since Interstellar there's at least been: Ex Machina, The Martian, Snowpiercer, Dawn/War of/for the Planet of the Apes, Arrival, and those are just the (good) ones I can think of off the top of my head. Upstream Color was also supposedly good, but I didn't really like it.

Hard Sci-Fi is science fiction “characterized by an emphasis on scientific accuracy”. The definitions of “hard” and “soft” sci-fi alike are more so approximations however, leaving a lot of room for discussion & debate.
It’s not uncommon for what is considered to be science to be stretched for the sake of narrative. Even Interstellar stretched science for the sake of narrative. What matters is that scientific ideas and concepts are explored in the story.

Well, other people do it, and there is no rule against it.
Yes, you can put more than one hyperlink. (ie True All-Time Movie Box Office Champ?) Links to outside of imdb.com will work on your Get Satisfaction Poll Suggestion and on your Poll, but will not be active on your saved IMDb list. You can test their accuracy by clicking them in the saved introduction prior to saving the list. Usually, outside links will show with small box at the end in upper left hand corner while editing and will show as regular type once saved.

Is it possible to remove items? It appears that some of these titles have been postponed to 2018, and hence would belong on the 2018 list.
If so, please remove the following: Mute, God Particle, and maybe The Man from Earth: Holocene (released 2017, but only publicly available 2018).

No, deleting options in live polls is rarely possible. It would disrupt the votes for other options.

As for the timing, the voter can always just vote for whichever one they were anticipating the most. That way films that have already come out are still eligible. It's just for 2017 in general.
