It's hard not to associate NYC with the movies; many of which and, more specifically, many scenes, are responsible for instilling this idea in our head that it is the perfect city, one of dreams and allure. These scenes delved deep into our collective consciousness and reinforced the magic we feel when we think of The Big Apple.

I think I've loved every single one of your polls but this one especially because not only is it just a very good poll but, also, I adore NYC and lived there for a while. (That makes me also really appreciate that you give information on the location or landmark.) I think my vote would go to the "I'm walkin' here!" scene from Midnight Cowboy.

Wow, the list expanded considerably and it's even better now. This one is definitely going on my little "Recommended Polls" list on my profile page. I thought of three other scenes, but Jen already suggested them: The scenes from Kramer vs. Kramer, Dog Day Afternoon, and An Affair to Remember. I also thought of a scene in Scorsese's After Hours and one in Desperatley Seeking Susan, but you've got 35 great ones already, and those scenes aren't really iconic because they're probably not well known enough. I just remembered that a couple of years ago I made a list of movies in which New York City is so prominent and important that it could be considered a character. I never suggested it as a poll because, at the time, I couldn't decide on 35, lol, but maybe I'll work on it and suggest it some time. Regardless, if you ever decide to do a "part two" of your poll, I'll mine that list for ideas.
By the way, I was kind of in bad mood today just because it's been one of those days and this poll and thread cheered me up. Of course, it also makes me want to move back to New York, lol.

Fun fact - King Kong supposedly climbed the Empire State Building but stills from 1933 movie show the ESB in the distance from the building he's actually on.
You have some of your descriptions listed like sentences and some listed in all-caps. I suggest your edit all to sentences.
Midnight Cowboy doesn't need a period at the end - you already have a !
I think the Goodfellas scene is better described as something like "Henry and Karen enter the Copacabana through the back entrance, greeting their friends as they make their way to the best table in the house."
I personally think the Stay-Puft scene is far more iconic than the library scene in Ghostbusters.
Tony walking to Staying Alive at the start of Saturday Night Fever is one of the most memorable scenes on all of movie-dom, let alone in this film. That is the scene that should be used.

Dog Day Afternoon - Sonny screams "Attica Attica" at the crowd in front of the bank he's robbing in on Prospect Park West in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Fame - the students of LaGuardia (aka the High School for Performing Arts) stop traffic on 46th Street singing the theme song while dancing with abandon.
Kramer vs. Kramer - Ted reluctantly gives Billy up so she can live with his mother; his heart sinks as the boy runs happily down across the Mall at Central Park into Joanna's arms.
West Side Story - the first rumble between the Jets and the Sharks (When You're a Jet) at a playground on 110th between 2nd and 3rd.
Shaft - the opening credits sequence as Shaft walks through Times Square, crossing against traffic to an extended version of the title song.
Hackers - Dade, Kate and their friends rollerblade down Park Avenue to Grand Central.
An Affair to Remember - While Terry is hit by a car going to meet Nickie, he waits in vain at the top of the Empire State Building.
Leon: The Professional - Leon and Matilda walk down the middle of 7th Avenue, carrying as houseplant and every possession they jointly own in two bags.
