Live Poll: Most Iconic Real-Life Quote (Moon Landing 50th Anniv.)

Celebrating a certain "small step but giant leap" that occurred some 50 years ago, here's a selection of real-life quotes said only once (no slogans), captured on TV or radio and parodied so many times they belong to Pop-Culture as much as historical posterity.

Which of these real-life quotes would you say is the most iconic?

(I'd like to keep it one quote by celebrity, unless there are no further additions)

'Another great poll, ElMo, and more great quotes. For most iconic, I'd say either of the first two. 'Good list and I love the intro.

Thanks Ruby (and for the previous comment), I'm assuming it's a quote that's been recorded, I couldn't find the corresponding footage but I've added it anyway :)

It was something she said in a radio address. I don't have the citation for the source anymore but, as an undergrad, I took a history class for which I wrote a paper about the role of radio in the development of the Second Wave of feminism. I went to the library system of a neighboring university, much bigger than the small college that I went to, and listened to very old radio footage that was stored in a climate-controlled wing of one of the buildings. It was really cool to hear voices, like Eleanor Roosevelt's, that I had either never heard or maybe heard for a total of a minute before.

That quote has been used so much that the context has been lost and I would never have known it was originally said on the radio had I not actually heard it over technology so different than what we have available today. There was something about hearing people over such antiquated technology that was so charming.

Ruby,

FYI:

Eleanor Roosevelt Biography

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt, You Learn by Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life

The audio recording you heard likely came from the FDR Library.

I would have thought JFK's "we do them not because they are easy" or "what you can do for your country" would be more iconic. I know you wanted to keep to one quote per, and "a day in infamy" is probably FDR's best known, but I can't help but be said by the omission of his "fear is vanishing". That said, I'd still pick Armstrong, so I suppose the point is moot. :D

JFK's "easy" quote is his signature, the one that sums up his character and his inspiration but as far as Pop-Culture goes, I think the "Berliner" quote takes the edge... right now, I have two Simpson parodies of that quote coming to mind.
