Live Poll: Never Been Cast: Working With Woody Allen

Woody Allen makes a lot of movies and casts a lot of actors. Which of these omissions would you like to see in one of his next films?

As Isabelle Huppert was recently quoted as saying, "There's not much time left. He's not that young any more ... Besides, he does so many of them. Frankly, what would it cost him to do one with me, vite fait, bien fait? It's really not a big deal. He doesn't know what he is missing."

My vote is Steve Martin,

FYC
Some possibilities, assuming it is a badge of honor or bucket list type of item for most actors or actresses to do a Woody Allen movie. The better fits I think for both parties are probably for younger talented actors and actress who are seeking a new and different director to hone their craft.

Actresses:
Geena Davis, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Alicia Vikander, Hillary Swank, Jessica Chastain

Actors:
Ryan Goling, Bryan Cranstan, George Clooney, Viggo Mortenson, Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken, J.K. Simmons, Christoph Waltz

A few of those were in Allen movies. I've added some of the others, but I'll wait for other suggestions or seconds before adding more.

Kevin Spacey

Sorry, about that. Scratch Sean Penn and Christopher Walken, J.K. Simmons and Viggo Mortenson. I didn't remember Sweet and Lowdown was a Woody Allen film,

No problem, I wouldn't expect anyone to be able to remember everyone who was in a Woody Allen movie.

I added Kevin Spacey.

In all fairness, J.K. Simmons' bit part in Celebrity as a Souvenir Hawker and Viggo Mortenson uncredited part that ended up on the cutting room floor in The Purple Rose of Cairo  are two roles that are excusable. But, I think still count toward having the "Woody Allen Experience", even though he didn't utilizing these aspiring actors full talents in an early role for them.

I'm so glad seeing the suggestion related to Woody Allen. So first of all, thanks a lot for that, Peter!

My vote is for Isabelle Huppert (Fantastic suggestion!)

FYC-

George Clooney (He can fit in the Woody Allen world as he comfortably does in the Coen brothers' world)
Ryan Gosling (Because of the romantic roles he has played)
Jennifer Lawrence (She said something about him and Larry David in an interview)
Greta Gerwig (Considering the close resemblance of Frances Ha with an interesting female character)

Greta Gerwig is a good one, plus NYC connection.

Gerwig was in To Rome with Love, and I'm only listing actors who have not appeared in any Woody Allen-directed film. I'll add the others.

Akash,

Two People Working Together on the Collaborations and Overlaps page is very useful when checking whether two people worked together.

To Rome with Love (2012) shows up for:
Most Popular Documentaries/Feature Films/TV Episodes/Videos/TV Movies/TV Specials/TV Mini-Series/Video Games/Short Films With Woody Allen And Greta Gerwig

Al Pacino... with Diane Keaton, it would be perfect, plus the guy needs a director who'd give him a real juicy role, I'm glad he's working with Scorsese, I'd love to see him with either Allen or Tarantino.

Peter,

My vote: Betty White - She plays crazy well and has a wicked sense of humor.

For your consideration:
Mel Brooks - He is good at film parody, both in front and behind the camera.

Tina Fey - Good comedy actress and writer.

I'm not sure I'll add Dunham. She has said some dismissive things about him on a personal level, and it might be a bit awkward to see her in this list.

Just wanted to share this. Glad to see Dustin Hoffman there. Seeing the trailer of 'The Meyerowitz Stories' made me realize, how great he can be in an Allen film.

I hadn't seen that. That is quite strange..

Of course, in some cases it may be scheduling problems that lead actors to miss out on films. I included Nicole Kidman in my list because she recently said she would like to do more comedy, but she was actually supposed to be in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger until she dropped out back in 2009.

My list is at 30 with some additions from suggestions and a few of my own. I'll consider replacing someone if anyone comes up with obvious omissions.

I'm happy with this poll, I find the results intriguing. Bill Murray is perhaps a predictable winner, and Huppert is doing well. On the other hand, Helen Mirren? Tina Fey? 0 votes.
