A zombie is a fictional undead being created through the reanimation of a human corpse. The term comes from Haitian folklore, where a zombie is a dead body reanimated through magic. Modern depictions of zombies often invoke science fictional methods such as carriers, radiation, mental diseases, vectors, viruses, scientific accidents, etc.

White Zombie (1932) is one of the earliest examples of a movie featuring a zombie. George A. Romero revolutionized the zombie subgenre with Night of the Living Dead (1968). This movie effectively redefined the use of the term "zombie". (Source: Wikipedia)

I'm really glad to see that White Zombie (1932) and (especially) I Walked with a Zombie (1943) were on the list (rather than the list containing only the more recent style of zombies). Movies produced by Val Lewton (e.g., IWwaZ, and Cat People [1942]) had great B&W cinematography and lighting, and were great at invoking a quiet, menacing, creepy atmosphere.

Incidentally, I Am Legend (2007) was essentially made twice before: as The Omega Man (1971) with Charlton Heston, and The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price. It's worth checking them out (although TOM seems dated and cheesy to me now).

John Bludgeoned, I thoroughly admit that both cases are borderline with many zombie elements but not exactly zombie movies.
