...adapted from the literature which were published/written before 1st January 1901.
I would suggest changing this to:
...adapted from literature published/written before 1st January 1901.

When it comes to the English language, I'm not even in the same league as Sara. But thanks anyway. ;)

DC, what's your first language? I'm thinking that you must have learned English when you were really young because your usage is better than most "native speakers," at least in the States. It's embarrassing to me that, while so many people from outside of the States know at least two languages fluently, most other Americans and I do not. I used to know a fair amount of Russian but no where near fluency, and I've lost most of it by now, and I know some Spanish but I'm not even proficient. I lived in China and wow, my Mandarin was awful -- I taught English there to high school students and all I had to do to make them laugh was to speak Chinese. :)

Suzy,

I am from the eastern part of India. The state is called West Bengal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Bengal) and city Kolkata (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkata). On this part of the country, our mother tongue is Bengali (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengali_language).

English was my 2nd language. I can speak or write English but don't have enough knowledge on English Literature, the Grammar etc.

In India you can find various languages state wise.

Here is the list of languages spoken state wise in India - https://gkforfree.wordpress.com/2012/08/11/list-of-languages-in-india-state-wise/

Hindi is the National Language of India. Most of the people speak this language and understand.

----------------------------

A small Indian language tip:

English - 'Hello'

Hindi - 'Namastey'

Bengali - 'Nomoshkar'

And this is the gesture to speak 'Namastey' or 'Nomoshkar':

They are Bengali couple (models actually). Dressed in Bengali fashion. The man is wearing Punjabi and the woman is wearing Saari.

'Good poll, Dibby! My vote: Pride and Prejudice or, maybe, Jane Eyre. 'Good title, too, although I'd suggest two little edits:

Post-20th Century Adaptations of Pre-20th Century Literature

According to style guides, the hyphen isn't actually necessary after "post" but it is after "pre," so hyphenating both is probably the better style choice. Ain't English grand? Lol. It can't make up its mind. How confusing. :)
