Noticed a mistake on the title there is missing a period after the P.

The Title is "R.I.P Kirk Douglas"
, but it should be "R.I.P. Kirk Douglas"

I corrected it on the list, but I'm not able to correct it on the post.

cinephile,

Thank you for creating this In Memoriam poll suggestion. I was not aware that Kirk Douglas had died.

I updated the title of this thread per your request.

I just knew him from the movies, but he was always sympathic.
My condolences to Michael Douglas and his brothers and family.

'Nicely and sensitively done.

There were a couple things I really didn't like about him but he certainly did have my admiration for these other things that you mention. It's hard to pick just one so I'm still undecided.

"His battles for justice and the causes he believed in."

This is indeed a very diplomatic way of saying that he was the man who first broke Hollywood's infamous "blacklist" from the McCarthy era and defied the anti-communist witch-hunt in Hollywood by hiring a blacklisted writer. It's interesting to see how this is highlighted in most European media as one of his major accomplishments, while in American media you have to use a magnifier to find any mention of this tiny little detail in Kirk Douglas' long and impressive career.

It also refers to the charity works he has done through the Douglas Foundation.

Why are you using an image of him as a cowboy, rather than image of him in military uniform or in a military role for option #4 His years of service during the World War II?
Kirk Douglas in In Harms Way 1965
In Harm's Way (1965)

Why are you using an image of him as Doc Holiday, rather than image of him as a Hollywood producer accepting a fake Oscar for option #1 His contribution to the cinema? Also, his Oscar nomination for the role is noteworthy. An image of him accepting an Honorary Oscar for "for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community" at The 68th Annual Academy Awards might fit here as well.

“I wanted to be an actor ever since I was a kid in the second grade. I did a play, and my mother made a black apron, and I played a shoemaker. After the performance, [my father] gave me my first Oscar: an ice cream cone.” -Kirk Douglas
