The following comedies all feature sometimes unconventional, always funny mothers, step mothers, grandmothers, or people put in the role of mothers. Which movie featuring a comedic Mom is your favorite?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls042769589/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/ELE1pWgr9NE/

If you know of any other suitable movies, please feel free, of course to suggest them. Thank you!

A lot of comedies for and about moms:
Steel Magnolias (1989)
My One and Only (2009)
De l'autre côté du lit (2008)
Raising Helen (2004)
Because I Said So (2007)...

Now I'm in the mood to vote between Mamma Mia and Freaky Friday
Two days ago I'd prefer Juno )))
And some time ago it was comfortable to watch the above-mentioned
De l'autre côté du lit (2008) each day.

Thank you for the great suggestions. I'll add them. Your recommendations also prompted me to remember 'Raising Arizona.' : )

I actually didn't add 'My One and Only' and 'De l'autre côté du lit' because they have less than 10,000 votes. If I go with that as the exclusion criteria, I'll remove one of the original movies, too. I may, however, cut films with ratings lower than 5.5, or so, and keep the ones with less tax 10,000 votes for those two may make it on eventually, once I decide on inclusion / exclusion critters. Anyway, thanks, so much, again. : )

Steel Magnolias? I have reservations, two words: cemetery scene. The closest to a comic relief in the film was the relationship between Olympia Dukakis and Shirley MacLaine.

As for Juno, Alison Janney played a cool mom in a comedy, but she wasn't a comedic character, on the contrary, if we consider Juno as the funny girl, her mother was playing a rather straight role.... hell, she even straightened out the nurse, and she didn't mean to be funny when she did that. It would be like including Kevin McAlister's mom, she's a "comedy's mom" but not much of a "comedic mom".

I would seriously reconsider these two roles, when I think of a comedic mom, I think of
Kirstie Alley in Look Who's Talking (such an underrated performance)
No seriously, Kirtsie Alley in Look Who's Talking
Ma Fratelli in The Goonies
Anne Ramsey again in Throw Momma Off the Train
Kathleen Turner in Peggy Sue Got Married
Anjelica Huston in The Addams Family
Olympia Dukakis in Moonstruck (in a deadpan snarking way)
Elizabeth Perkins in The Flintstones
Ralphie's mother in A Christmas Story

I've almost forgot to suggest one of my favorite comedies that feets to this poll:
Heartbreakers (2001)

Oh no, I hadn't seen your suggestion until now. It meets the inclusion criteria, plus boasts Weaver and Hackman, but I just got the list down to 35. I'm thinking of cutting one that doesn't seem to fit, though, so I think I can add 'Heartbreakers.' Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, and ElMo, I added all but then had to cut one ('The Flintstones.') I made the inclusion criteria the way that it is so I could keep 'Look Who's Talking,' although I've never seen it, because you advocated for it. : ). Thank you!

You could add Look Who's Talking and throw all the other ones, I wouldn't have minded, but Kirstie Alley delivered a fine, heart-warming and hilarious performance :)

You can consider Shrek The Third, Fiona as a mother I think it meets the labels of your surveys

Thanks, so much, for the suggestion. Unfortunately my list got up to over 50 movies so I had to create inclusion criteria and one is live-action movies only.

Thanks, Narnia, for the suggestion. I added it. I'm already at 35, though, and haven't added a lot of other suggestions so I'm going too have to come up with inclusion/exclsuion criteria. Right now, I think it would stay in but I can't promise anything. : )

Hey everybody,

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will start adding them and responding to your posts in a couple of days. End of the semester grading has me swamped right now so I'm too busy to give this much attention for the next day or so but I really appreciate your help. : )

I went ahead and added everyone's suggestions: thank you so much! I got so many good suggestions, in fact, that I had to create exclusion criteria because the list got up over 50 movies. Unfortunately, that means some suggestions had to. be cut. I kept as many as I could, though; thanks, again.
