Live Poll: Comedy TV Shows That Epitomize Female Friendships

Sitcoms are often centered around the misadventures of a close group of friends. Which all-female friend group depicted in a popular sitcom would you most like to be a part of? Or, similarly, which group do you see yourself fitting in with the best? Please note: Only non-animated sitcoms depicting a group of adults will be included (i.e. no high school-based sitcoms).

Also vote on the mixed-gender version of this poll: Sitcoms That Epitomize Friendship

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls029087414/

https://www.imdb.com/poll/SHIbh1BX18o/

Looking for suggestions- and I haven't watched any shows on the list (just took suggestions from my last poll), so tell me if I put in anything wrong. Also give me suggestions for all-male groups so I can determine if there are enough shows to make an all-male version later (trailer park boys is all I can think of).

I don't think Claws is considered a sitcom. It's more of a nighttime soap opera.

However, if you are going to include it, then GLOW falls in that same spot on the spectrum.

FYC:
Better Things Love smiley 1
Insecure
The Facts of Life
Living Single
Mom
Designing Women
Teachers
Laverne and Shirley
Katie & Allie

I'm thinking about changing this poll to just TV shows in general because it's hard for me to determine what is/isn't a sitcom when I haven't seen it (and when I'm not entirely clear on the definition). But idk, what do you (and everyone) think?

Another option is Desperate Housewives, which was comedy but not really a sitcom. So maybe changing that word makes sense.

I made the change- I haven't seen any of the suggested shows so I just put the names of all the females that appeared in all or almost all the episodes. Some of them were too hard to tell who the main group was (eg. Insecure, Mom) so I haven't put them in yet. Can you take a looksy to see if I did it correctly, Jen? Also, even though a 'group' can technically mean 2 people I'm only going to include groups of 3 or more.

And Peter, are Susan, Lynette, Bree, Gabrielle and Brenda the friend group in Desperate Housewives?

With Brenda you may mean Brenda Strong's character Mary Alice, but it may be best to leave her out as she dies in the first episode and then serves as the narrator. It's complicated :)

I've watched most of the episodes of Desperate Housewives (2004–2012). I consider  Susan Mayer, Lynette ScavoBree Van De Kamp and Gabrielle Solis to be the core group of friends on Desperate Housewives (2004–2012). Edie Britt was part of the original group from 2004-2009. Karen McCluskey became a regular character in 2005 through 2012.  Mary Alice Young functions as the narrator of series after her death in the first episode. She appears in flashbacks throughout the run of the series.

"Edie Britt was part of the original group from 2004-2009."

Not exactly. Edie was Susan Mayer's rival and a former mistress of Susan's ex-husband. Their dislike for each other culminated in Season 2, when Edie burned down Susan's house in an act of revenge for one of Susan's misdeeds.

In Season 3, Edie develops a one-sided love and obsession with Carlos Solis (Gabrielle Solis' estranged husband) after a brief sexual affair with him. They move in together, but he makes it clear that he does not love her, and he is increasingly frustrated with her attempts to control and manipulate him. He leaves her at the finale of the season, and Edie attempts suicide.

In season 4, Edie survives the suicide attempt  and resumes her relationship with Carlos. She finds out some of his secrets and attempts to blackmail him. She also discovers that Carlos is still sleeping with Gabrielle, despite the fact that they are officially divorced and Gabrielle has recently married another man.  Later in the season, Edie interferes in Bree Van de Kamp's personal life, and Bree retaliates by sabotaging Edie's business as a real estate agent and isolating Edie from the few friends she had.

Season 5 is set 5 years after Season 4. Edie returns to Wisteria Lane after a 5-year absence and attempts to befriend her former rivals. Edie has recently married a man, while knowing very little about him. She does not know that her husband Dave Williams is a murderer, and that he is using her as a pawn in a revenge scheme.

Later in the season, Edie investigates Dave's guilty past and confronts him about it. He tries to kill her with his favorite method (strangulation), but she barely escapes. While escaping with her car, Edie is involved in a traffic accident. She exits the car relatively unharmed , but steps into a stray power line and is electrocuted to death.

While they spend years as Edie's rivals, the main group find out after her death that Edie considered them to be her closest friends. Edie's son from a previous marriage entrusts them with her ashes.

On Scream Queens Chanel #1 is just Chanel.

Insecure - Issa and Molly
Mom - Christy, Bonnie, Violet, Marjorie, Jill, Wendy, Regina and Jodi
Teachers - Cecilia, Chelsea, AJ, Caroline, Mary Louise and Deb
Kate & Allie - Kate, Allie, Emma and Jennie

Now that you've opened it to all genres. FYC:
Orange is the New Black - has different friend groups. You could list them individually...?
Orphan Black - Sarah, Cosima, Allison, Helena - there are other clones but they are either dead, villains or otherwise not part of this main group.
Charmed - Phoebe, Piper, Paige (first three seasons Prue)
GLOW - Ruth, Debbie, Cherry, Carmen, Justine, Rhonda, Sheila, Tammé, Melanie, Stacy, Dawn, Arthie, Jenny, Reggie and Yolanda (these are their civilian names, not their wrestling names)
227 - Mary, Sandra, Rose and Pearl
American Woman - Bonnie, Kathleen and Diana
The Bold Type - Jane, Kate and Sutton
Pretty Little Liars - Spencer, Alison, Aria, Mona, Alex, Hanna and Emily (not sure if these are right - for sure Spencer, Hanna, Aria, Emily and Alison)
Charlie's Angels - Jill, Sabrina and Kelly (later Kris, Tiffany and Julie at different times)
The L Word - Jenny, Bette, Tina, Alice, Shane, Kit, Marina, Dana, Helena, Kit, Carmen, Moira/Max, Jodie and Tasha
Sisters - Alex, Georgie, Frankie, Teddy and (later) Charley
Devious Maids - Marisol, Rosie, Carmen and Zoila
Army Wives - ?
Mistresses - Savi, Karen, April, Joss
Bunheads - Michelle, Boo, Sasha, Ginny and Melanie
Clueless - Cher, Dionne and Amber

Sometimes Chanel is Chanel #1, like on the episode I watched the other day her blood samples were labelled "#1, Chanel" as if #1 was her last name, but ya I'll just put Chanel Oberlin because that is used more

& I made it 'comedy TV shows' instead of sitcoms to avoid differentiating between comedies that are and aren't sitcoms, so some suggestions don't fit but I added about 4 of them to the list! and tbh I could never get into Orange is the New Black and ditched it after the first season, so no clue what the friend groups are and can't really figure it out because everyone is in basically all the episodes

FYC: It's a comedy-drama but, if you think it fits in terms of genre, OITNB. Like Jen, I could also tease out the different groups of friends in the series, although there is some significant overlap so you could put them all together. I know Jen is as big a fan of that show as I am, so she'd give you reliable advice, as well.
