Live Poll: Sitcoms That Epitomize Friendship

Sitcoms are often centered around the misadventures of a close group of friends. Which friend group depicted in a popular sitcom would you most like to be a part of? Or, similarly, which friend group do you see yourself fitting in with the best? Please note: Only non-animated sitcoms depicting a group of both male and female adults will be included (i.e. no high school-based sitcoms).

with friends like these...3 out of five shows on the list i can't stand...didn't see the fourth one...and the fifth one, 'seinfeld', was the only one i watched regularly, when it was still called 'the seinfeld chronicles'...then it got popular and i stopped watching it...

when i first read your question, i thought of shows like 'perfect strangers' and other sitcoms like that...

they may not have been great shows, but at least you felt the characters actually cared about each other...

It looks like perfect strangers is about a family, are there any other you have in mind that have unrelated friends?

Larry and Balki were cousins who didn't know each other before the show started. They even lived in different countries and spoke different languages.

I third Seinfeld, because me and my friends all have an a-hole sense of humour. George Costanza also told me to get therapy years ago and it was the second best thing to ever happen to me.

Okay I'm only doing friend groups that include both genders because it'd be a biased poll having Sex and the City and stuff like that because only girls would pick it.  I'll do one for male groups and female groups separately later (if this one gets posted). I'm also not going to add groups of coworkers because they kinda have to get along and lots of them don't hang outside of work. But there are quite a few on here that do work and I'll add them later because I'm heading out right now. Thank you :)

I'm not sure the word "goals" improves the meaning or purpose of the poll...even if there was such a thing as a "friendship goal", "Sitcoms That Epitomize Friendship" sounds good enough.
My vote goes for "Friends".

I think everyone is overthinking it waay more than I expected.

ElM, My description says "Which friend group depicted in a popular sitcom would you most like to be a part of?" -- The fact that you would prefer to be a part of one friend group over all others implies in itself that having a friendship like that would be a "goal". Certain things that friends do in TV shows like answering the phone when you're sad at 4am and always being there might be a "friendship goal" to you. As long as poll takers understand the question itself I don't think they're gonna get confused whether the original or revised poll title is used.

Albstein, it doesn't mean the friends themselves have common goals, but that having a certain type of friendship would be a goal. Just like "career goals" would mean you want a certain career (e.g. a veterinarian, an engineer, a director, etc). "Career goals" would not refer to the specific goals within a particular career, at least in the context I hear it (e.g. a veterinarian having the goal of not letting animals die). Hope that makes sense and I understand the confusion!

I think it's also because you said you were annoyed, so all the ensuing talk about friendship goals or no goals was meant to tell you that some unfortunate misunderstanding occurred and you had absolutely no reason to be annoyed.

The annoyance is the number people making remarks about the phrasing after it had been amended, right? Haha.

I disagree ElM, because people were saying they didn't understand the purpose of the word 'goal' before I said I was annoyed, which to me is overthinking the inclusion of a single word regardless of the fact that the original title did not make anyone confused about the purpose of the post. All suggestions I received referred to desirable friendships, indicating that the poll was understood and anyone taking the poll would also get the point. So questioning a single word is just unnecessary semantics & overthinking to me

You misunderstood Three's Company. Jack, Janet and Larry were there all seasons. Chrissy, Teri and Cindy were all on at different times - never on together.

I'm not sure what Hung is and the IMDB page isn't clear. How did they become friends? I'm not including coworkers on the post so I just want to make sure the context fits the poll

Yeah, 'Hung' is an interesting and hard-to-explain situation. They certainly aren't co-workers in any traditional sense. Ray teaches high school social studies and coaches football, Tanya is a poet and sells pastries, Mike is a coach, Lenore is a high-powered businessperson, and I'm not sure what Charlie does. Ray and Tanya, the most central characters, met at a conference or workshop. They meet again months later and go into business together but it's an illegal business so they're not co-workers in any traditional sense. Lenore is, at first, a client, then a competitor, and sometimes a cohort. The five of them are odd-couple type friends, mismatched but develop tender, though sometimes contentious, friendships and get into all kinds of adventures together. It's a very smart and hilarious show, a kind of under-known gem.

They seem to fit the spirit of the poll well.

Okay bomb I'll add it! It's different if they already know each other and decide to go into business; I'm picking what works for the poll based on the notion that 'you can choose your friends'

Hi, rubyfruit76. M*A*S*H might not be what groovyvic had in mind, since it showcases friends who also happen to be coworkers, assuming all of them are friends at all. Similar is the case with Parks and Recreation.

Jeorj Euler, that was actually explored in spin-offs: Trapper John, M.D. (court proven that it was technically a spin-off of the movie, but they definitely abused some loophole as they featured Hawkeye and Trapper from the series on the photograph in the pilot episode), After MASH and W*A*L*T*E*R

MASH extended universe is fairly large. :)

The second screen cap is from The Game, groovyvic. It's about a group of women who are wives of professional athletes, and also about the athletes themselves. I've only seen bits and pieces of it, just like with many other sitcoms that epitomize friendship. For some reason, I've never really watched a whole lot of television shows with the specific theme of general friendship absent of professional connection and absent of family connection.
