Perhaps I'm wrong - my knowledge of King-movies and King-novels is a bit hazy... but I'm thinking that a lot his stories have prominent characters that are alcoholics. Shining, Doctor Sleep and IT definitely have those. As far as I know, King himself battled that addiction for years.

Alcoholism is a central theme of Shining and probably Doctor Sleep and plays a rather minor role in IT. I can't remember addiction in any other adaptation, it may appear here and there but not very often or in very important ways. Good idea nonetheless because it ties in with his own life, but I'm going to leave the option out.

Ordinary things becoming sinister is the best move as a writer.  But I think his most iconic is using Maine.  :)

The only thing I remember from the books written Stephen King that I have read ( The Shawshank Redemption and Apt Pupil) is that they are set in Maine

Fun Fact: Kurt Dussander knew Andy Dufresne, the two-story aren't just in the same state, they are also in the same Universe, I can't sound dumb if you just read that they are both in the same universe because as far as we there is only one universe. Anyway, I mean that the two books could have been not related to each other, but Kurt Dussander told to the boy (I forgot it, and I'm too lazy to google "annoying character in Stephen King's novels"). Basically, he told him that Andy was he banker in which that the books are in the same coherent universe.

PS: Don't tell me that "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Apt Pupil" aren't book. I know that the title of the actual book is "Different Seasons", but again I'm too lazy to google translate what we call in french "Nouvelles".

Depending on the definition the term is probably novella or short story.

Many of King's stories even take place in the same town, Castle Rock. It's nice that he uses the region he knows best and makes us familiar with it but I don't know if the interconnected universe serves a good purpose. Seems to be a writer's folly that demistyfies the horror.
