Live Poll: The "Nickname" Game

A nickname is an informal name given to someone or something, often preceded with a.k.a. (though sometimes it's the real name that goes after). This poll focuses on nicknames given to human characters, either real of fictional.

Indeed, any movies are named after a main character who's mostly referred to through a nickname, the following list doesn't include however nicknames that give indication of the character's job or title, nor does it feature terms of endearments (so no Godfather, Birdman of Alcatraz and Mommie Dearest...)

Which of these "nickname" movie titles is your favorite?

Cinderella is a valid one, especially since you're referring to the 2015 version where they explained the origin of her name (as a kid, from the book, I was always surprised that it was a nickname all along).

Sleeping Beauty is a tricky one, not sure I would include it, if not a job, the nickname is still about her "occupation" for a significant portion of the film, and is not a name she's called by over the course of the story,  just a catchy and 'poetic' way to refer to her like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Fair enough, I wasn't too sure about Sleeping Beauty myself. :)

How about Magic Mike?

You may want to put a note on La Vie en Rose, since that title doesn't work as the French title nickname does: La môme

FYC:
Radio
Patch Adams
Three of the four Indiana Jones film
Cat Ballou
Rocky
Sully
Drillbit Taylor
Patti Cake$

I added Radio, Patch Adams, Drillbit Taylor. I'm not sure about Patti Cake, Wikipedia doesn't say much about the film, is it the whole nickname or simply the diminutive of Patricia? F

When I made this list, I tried to avoid nicknames that work like diminutives because they're generally the names by which the characters are called throughout the film, for the same reason, I didn't consider Rob Roy.

Now, I checked for "Indiana Jones" (no need for "Rocky") but from the scripts I read, they're never  really called by their birth name Henry or Robert. In fact their nicknames technically would be "Indy", "Junior" or "The Italian Stallion".

For the option to work, I think there's got to be a reasonable "duality", by that I mean the film should allow the viewer to make a reasonable distinction between the nickname and the character's real name.

If anyone disagrees, we can discuss it. Many films in the list could be removed without hurting the poll much.

I'm confused about why Indiana doesn't qualify... Because not enough people refer to him as Henry?

And why not Sully and Cat Ballou? Maybe I'm missing where in the intro you say it can't be a diminutive...

I made a few changes, indeed it's not like Callahan was called "Dirty Harry" all through the film... let's keep it simple.
