B.C.E.= Before Cable Expansion (1984). OTA= Over The Air.

Believe it or not cable television dates back to the 1950s, when people in "Fringe" areas of reception wanted the new medium of television in their homes. The F.C.C. however restricted these cable operators severely, until deregulation in 1984 paved the way for the first of the Super-Stations. Up until that time there were the "Big 3" American Networks. ABC, CBS and NBC. Syndicated Networks came along in the mid 1970s also.

This poll has the best of American OTA TV from that era. They are IMDb ranked live action shows, with at least a 6.5 rating and 10,000 vote minimum.

Which is your favorite?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls044937630/
Poll:

There is room for nominations for 5 Top TV shows from 1948 thru June of 1983.
Nominate one, and if two other poll regulars (Anyone) agree, it will be included.

Poll introduction just unexpectedly educated me on a thing I never knew I wanted to know. Great job!

Also, I've probably mentioned it, but whenever I see "Cheers" (1982) in some capacity "Angela (Theme from Taxi)" (which is, of course, from "Taxi") starts to play in my head. Both shows are (unfortunately) not as known in Ukraine as some of the other American sitcoms out there, so the fact that those two got mixed in that odd specific way is most likely due to the fact that they often overlap in old 1980's and 1990's commercial breaks and bumpers which I watch constantly for inspiration and research...

80's commercials are a great way to pass the time (just as long as it's not keeping one from their job at the hospital as a brain surgeon, of course).  :)

NarniaisAwesome I mainly use commercials and weird podcasts to isolate creative part of my brain into understanding that when I do something more boring and down-to-earth. :) However, recently commercials started to be a bit difficult for that kind of work since I often compare 1989 to 2019 in different aspects as one of my odd hobbies... I still love to watch them, though. A great way to immerse onself in time, since they contain a lot of genuine detail: most movies are designed to be more or less timless and even those which are "time capsules" still have a filtered version of their time...

I am striving to do a better job at intro's. I just recently started interjecting some interesting trivia in the descriptions. Thanks Nikolay, for the thumbs up!!

Yes, oldies commercials can be fun and informative.  When I watch mid-80's commercials, I find that while they are cheesy, they are fun.  People are always dancing, singing, and being happy for orange juice!  2019 ads?  Scamming Get Fit pills and Amy Schumer being stupid.  :/
