In celebration of French National Day and France winning the World Cup (?), here's a poll dedicated to the many French classics that have been remade into Hollywood movies... some more successfully than others.

Which of these memorable Hollywood versions of French movies is your favorite?

Sorcerer and Down and Out in Beverly Hills are both good.

Have you seen La Totale?

Nope. Is or gold?

"Sorcerer" ls an underrated masterpiece victim of non-existent marketing, bad timing (well... summer '77) and a misleading title.

No, that‘s why I asked you. Agree about Sorcerer. William Friedkin says he got the title “Sorcerer“ from a Miles Davis album. Thank god he wasn‘t listening to „My Funny Valentine“ at least.

I just remembered this one - My Father the Hero (Mon père, ce héros - Gérard Lauzier). both starring Gérard Depardieu.

You might want to reconsider The Talented Mr. Ripley/Plein soleil. Despite what IMDb says, I think they are adaptations of the same Patricia Highsmith novel. The US version is not a remake specifically of the French version - they just have the same base story.

You have Father’s Day in the list twice.

The Upside has not been properly released yet, so not many have seen it. This is because it was made by The Weinstein Company. It may come out this year.

I was wondering why no one ever talked about the film... quite an upside for such a highly anticipated film to be released by the "wrong" company
